First glitch

So far I have found Insteon to be far superior to the X-10. I did however, last night, witness what I believe to be the first glitch. This raised an operational question.

I have a fan that I have come on for 7 min. out of every 45 min. to circulate the air in a large room. Sitting there the fan ran for a very long time. Looking at the log the off command was sent. The log below will explain better than I can. Also I do not see a command in the log that set the fan to on.

I was under the impression that Indigo would send a command and would continue to do so until the appropriate return was sent from the Insteon device. Obviously it appears that the Insteon device is sending incorrect status up dates to Insteon.

Am I wrong in this description of how things work?

Thanks

I have noticed the occasional spurious on/off command, too.

The PowerLinc itself retries failed commands several times, increasing the hop (repeat) count for the command every time. If that fails, then Indigo does not try to re-send it again (it likely wouldn't help).

It looks like you are using a SwitchLinc Dimmer to control a fan. Smarthome says that this will work, but I wonder if it part of the reason for the problems, especially the status request return value not being correct. I'm surprised by the spurious on/offs -- the Insteon commands are all checksummed (unlike X10) so it is highly unlikely that noise on the power line could cause a spurious on/off. I wonder if it is a faulty module, firmware bug, or a problem with using a Dimmer with a fan load.

Matt

Not sure of any of your suggestions. I am going to by an analog clock and use this to check the total time the fan was on during a full day.

I do have a feeling it is a problem with also using Lutrons RadioRa. The only time I have found it to fail is when one or more of these controled lights are operating. Again this is not a certanity

Have you assigned an X10 address to the SwitchLinc or are you using INSTEON only? X10 will be much more susceptible to false on/offs, but if you are using INSTEON-only, then I wouldn't expect any.

Only Insteon. To date, with out the Lutron system on all is well.
I did find out last night, when getting a status it would change the setting of the fan. First it would give an error then change the setting to 100%.

Please understand that all other items are working great, much better than the X-10

Hi Bruce,

The "send failed (no ack)" error messages hint at the command not getting to the module correctly. I'd try moving your SignaLinc RFs around to see if that helps. It might also be a malfunctioning SwitchLinc.

Matt

Found the PowerLinc V2 was not completely set into the wall outlet. The light was lit, but still very loose.

Will check tonight
