Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

I have an enbrighten (GE) Smart Dimmer switch that I had connected to Indigo. It was easy to setup and worked fine for months. Then, some months ago, it stopped working. Indigo's messages were not being ack'd. Indigo indicates that the Z-Wave interface is working.

I also have a couple of Aeotec MultiSensors.

I've managed to remove the dimmer switch altogether so I don't have anything in the long when I try to include them again.

I've got the MultiSensors there - and here's what the log gives me when Indigo tries to connect:
Z-Wave Error device "Downstairs Bedroom Illuminance" no longer has a matching module 010 in the controller
Z-Wave Error device "Downstairs Bedroom Motion Sensor" no longer has a matching module 010 in the controller
Z-Wave Error device "Downstairs Bedroom Temperature" no longer has a matching module 010 in the controller
Z-Wave Error device "Master Bedroom Humidity" no longer has a matching module 008 in the controller
Z-Wave Error device "Master Bedroom Luminance" no longer has a matching module 008 in the controller
Z-Wave Error device "Master Bedroom Motion Sensor" no longer has a matching module 008 in the controller
Z-Wave Error device "Master Bedroom Temperature" no longer has a matching module 008 in the controller
Z-Wave Error controller reported unexpected or missing module information for some devices

Does that give a hint at what might be wrong?

I've tried getting both the switch and the MultiSensors going.

When I go into inclusion mode, the log reads:
Z-Wave started controller inclusion mode
Z-Wave Debug RCVD inclusionMode ready: 01 07 00 4A 01 01 00 00 B2

But despite my efforts on the devices, nothing happens.

I've read through all the documents available - but I'm clearly missing something to make all this work.

Would much appreciate any help the good people on this forum can provide.

Many thanks in advance,

Wayne

Re: Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

Hi Wayne,

Those log errors mean that the module's address (008 and 010 in this case) are no longer included in the Z-Wave Controller (Z-Stick probably?).

You can try unplugging the Z-Stick from the Mac for a few seconds and plugging it back in to see if it is just a transitory glitch or if the modules really are no longer included in the Z-Stick.

If they really aren't there, and you didn't exclude them, then the Z-Stick might be malfunctioning. Regardless, you can try to get it working again by factory resetting the modules (see their instructions for the steps on that), then re-including them in the Z-Stick and re-syncing them in Indigo (from the device dialog for the module).

Re: Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

Thanks for your reply, Matt. I seem to be stuck at an earlier step.

I pulled the Z-stick S2. Waited a few minutes and plugged it back in. It shows up in the lower-left in green so I assume all's well.

I deleted the old references to the devices I had previously.

When I try to create a new device, the define and sync window shows, next to Sync using node: "no Available Node IDs in Controller"

I even reset the stick: interfaces > Z-Wave > Reset Z-wave interface but I get the same message.

Any ideas how to move forward?

Thanks again,

Wayne

Re: Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

If you reset the Z-Wave interface then you are going to need to re-include each device (in the device dialog) so that its address (node ID) is in the controller (Z-Stick, etc.).

If they won't include, then try excluding them first.

Re: Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

Thanks for your reply, Matt.

But I'm missing something here. Some step is eluding me.

I'm following the steps found here: https://wiki.indigodomo.com/doku.php?id ... ve_devices.

I get to the Synchronize Z-Wave Device window.

I click on New with Encryption Disabled.

Green writing shows up telling me to follow the devices inclusion instructions - it's simple, on this switch "press and release the top or bottom button on the smart dimmer to add it in the network."

I do that - but the Sync using Node: drop down has nothing available. It reads "No Available Node IDs in Controller"

I'm stuck there. I've pulled the controller from the Mac - waited several minutes. I've done a reset from within Indigo. I'm at a loss to know why this isn't working (it was a breeze to set up when I got the switch).

Same goes for a pair of aeotec enviro/motion sensors.

Again, I very much appreciate your help.

Re: Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

Try excluding the device first - the Z-Stick (and Indigo) never saw an incoming inclusion message from the device, which probably means that the device thinks it's already included.

Re: Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

Thanks again, Matt.

No go, I'm afraid

I went to Interfaces > Z-Wave > Start Controller Exclusion Mode

May 2, 2023 at 11:59:34 AM
Z-Wave Debug SENT exitExclusionMode: 01 04 00 4B 05 B5
Z-Wave Debug RCVD exitExclusionMode: 06 (ACK)

Z-Wave Debug SENT enter_exclusion_mode: 01 04 00 4B 81 31
Z-Wave Debug RCVD enter_exclusion_mode: 06 (ACK)
Z-Wave started controller exclusion mode
Z-Wave Debug RCVD exclusionMode ready: 01 07 00 4B 02 01 00 00 B0

Then hit the button on the switch.

Nothing happened in the log.

I then tried Devices > New > Z-Wave for sync'ing

But again, San using node: shows nothing available - see screenshot - highlighted in red.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks again!

Re: Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

I'm confused - you log snippet first shows exclusion mode exiting (without it first starting) then it shows exclusion mode starting, so we're missing something here.

If you started exclusion, then did the exclusion process on the switch, then Indigo would have automatically ended exclusion mode without further intervention. At that point, you would have had to retry the inclusion mode (it wouldn't automatically do an inclusion which is what's needed for it to show up in the node popup).

Re: Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

Ya - I understand the confusion ....

We started the exclusion mode - hit the switch - nothing was happening. So I exited the exclusion mode.

And I just tried again to include it - in case the log doesn't report exclusion activity.

And I missed the part in the log where I entered exclusion mode!! Here it is:

The reference to SensorStatus is for a Aeotec motion sensor. It can't connect either - but I haven't tried excluding it first. I'll try that when ig et home tonight.

Re: Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

Hello:

It's been a long time since April - and I still can't get things going.

I even bought a new Z-stick - exact same behaviour.

Any idea where I might be going wrong? Might there be a corrupt .plist file or something?

I'd really like to get this going - as I have bought several Z-Wave devices (while Insteon was no longer).

Here again is the Synchronize Z-Wave Device image. Same as before despite the brand new z-stick.

Re: Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

I'm not sure what is going on here exactly, but the behavior you originally described would happen if you deleted the devices from Indigo (and/or reset the Z-Wave interface) but failed to exclude the modules. The modules in that case would remember that they are included and they can only be included in 1 controller so they won't then re-include (even into the same controller). That is, they have to be excluded first, then re-included, then re-sync'd.

So try all of those steps (exclude, re-include, re-sync), then copy/paste the Event Log window showing the complete result of all the steps (don't past just snippets; I'd like to see everything from all 3 steps). If they have successfully excluded then that step might not work (so continue on to the re-include and re-sync), but still try all 3 steps and include the log results of everything. Lastly, remember that battery operated modules (multi-sensors) must be awake for the inclusion process and sync process to work. For simplicity I would recommend working on just the light switch module at this point since that is a simpler case (it doesn't sleep).

Re: Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

Was the above for the dimmer switch or the multi-sensor? While the dimmer switch inclusion/sync is simpler (since it isn't battery operated and doesn't sleep), I wonder if the switch module itself has failed. Therefore, also try the steps for the multi-sensor. Refer to its manual for how to exclude and include it, and keep in mind it can be tricky to keep the module "awake" throughout the sync process.

It was for the switch. I'll try the multi sensor.

I'll try tonight and get back to you.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Trouble reConnecting Z Wave device

A no go all around, I'm afraid.

I successfully reset the switch - but still no go.

I tried the motion sensor as well - nothing.

When things were fine - regardless of the device, I had Node IDs available in the controller. Is that situation independent of any particular device? If so, why is that happening?

Should I do a full erase and reinstall of indigo to get this thing going? Sounds drastic - but I've tried numerous times to get this thing working.

I do appreciate your help.
