Remove dead z-wave device

I had two Homeseer switches (hs-ws200+) break on me during a power outage (apparently a known problem). I have replaced them with new (and newer HS-WX300) ones. How can I remove the old devices including their entries in the controller. (so their ids can be reused). Do I just simply delete them from device list and then use the z-wave interfaces "remove failed modules from controller" function? Is there a way to be more selective? The reason for this is that I have some z-wave battery devices that are not responding, but I don't want them to be removed.
