No Ack for many devices on Z network

Recently I noted many of the devices were not responding as per schedules. I checked the indogo server and note that many of hte devices are indicated in red with no acknowledgment when I try a status update. Is this a syncing issue? How can I get to make the devices work again?

Re: No Ack for many devices on Z network

Is there a pattern as to where in your property these are?

I’ve discovered / decided after much trial and error that although my TKB plug-in Zwave sockets are great little units, they do stop taking part in the Zwave mesh after a year or so of operation.

Excluding and re-including again gets them behaving again as new.

If you have any Zwave device that isn’t happy, devices beyond it will also be delayed and go NO ACK.

Re: No Ack for many devices on Z network

Thanks for your reply. No pattern really, except that there is a bunch from device numbers 027 to 031 which are having problems, even though they are located in random.
All of them are Fibaro relay or dimmer switches. But then some other Fibaro dimmer and relay switches are working OK.

Re: No Ack for many devices on Z network

I wonder if you are having collision / congestion issues on your Z-Wave network. How many modules do you have?

You can turn on the Z-Wave debug logging via the Interfaces->Z-Wave->Configure... menu item to get an idea of how frequently messages are coming in from modules.

Re: No Ack for many devices on Z network

I am starting to have the same issue described above - it seems all of my zwave devices are not responding to my commands to, for example, turn on or off. I am receiving motion and temperature from battery operated z-wave devices reporting back. it just seems like there is no communication being received (or sent)?

Some background info ...

I mistakenly upgraded my macOS to Monterey 12.3.1 and as everyone knows it "broke indigo". I recently downloaded Monterey 12.2.1 and was able to "wipe" the Mac-mini (M1 Chip) and install Monterey 12.2.1. I deactivated Indigo on an old Mac-mini and activated Indigo on the Mac-mini I installed 12.2.1. After installation and activation - Indigo seemed to be working properly - I was able to remotely turn on/off z-wave devices - now I cannot turn on/off any z-wave devices.

Also - when I try to "Optimize Z-Wave Network" for all or individual devices - they all fail ...

Any suggestions on where to look?

Re: No Ack for many devices on Z network

Try to do an optimization.
Did you change the position of some device?

Re: No Ack for many devices on Z network

I attempted an optimization for all of the devices and each "optimization" fails. No devices were moved - the only "move" was that I activated Indigo on another Mac-mini and moved all of the interfaces to it.

Oddly enough, after posting the message above - I restarted the Mac-mini and everything was working great. However, after about 4 hours the communications started having the same issue with the z-wave network. I moved everything back too the "old" Mac-mini and will see if I have the same issue (2010 Mac mini with intel processor).

As I noted above the "newest" Mac-mini I have - I let the macOS upgrade to Monterey 12.3.1 and it "broke" indigo. I was never able to work through all of the fixes that were recommended to enable me to use the Mac-mini. So I was running everything on the old Mac-mini. I found a way to download a version of Monterey 12.2.1 and wipe the "new" Mac-mini and install Monterey 12.2.1. It all seemed to be working fine - so I assumed I had solved the issue, However, all z-wave comms started failing and rebooting fixes the issue for a short time (4 hours) before the comms issue reappear. So I am back to running on the old Mac-mini and will wait for the updated version of Indigo for Monterey 12.3

Re: No Ack for many devices on Z network

The next time it happens try unplugging your Z-Wave Controller (Z-Stick, etc.) from your Mac's USB port for a few seconds, then plug it back in. Does everything start working then? If so, then I think the controller is getting into a bad state. This could be because it is marginal or starting to fail.

Re: No Ack for many devices on Z network

Matt,

Thanks for the suggestion ...

Just to summarize what happened -

I have a Mac-mini with M1 chip that I upgraded to Monterey 12.3.1 which wrecked Indigo.
I attempted to get Indigo to work on the Mac-mini with 12.3.1 - it was not successful.

I have an older Mac-mini running High Sierra 10.13.6 and moved the License to it and ran indigo with the z-stick. No issues with Indigo or z-stick.

Back to the Mac-Mini with Monterey 12.3.1. ...
I was able to download a version of Monterey 12.2.1 using the terminal command: softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 12.2.1
I wiped the Mac-mini clean and installed Monterey 12.2.1

I transferred the Indigo license from the High Sierra 10.13.6 to the Mac-mini running Monterey 12.2.1
All was working fine initially ... then the z-wave devices started becoming unresponsive.
I attempted to "optimize" the z-wave network and ALL devices failed to respond.
I restarted the Mac-mini (Monterey 12.2.1) and everything was back to normal. After about 4 hours I was back to z-wave devices not responding.

I transferred the Indigo License back to my High Sierra Mac-mini (and all of the interfaces) - the z-stick has been operating flawlessly for the past several days.

I do not know if the installation of Monterey 12.2.1 was missing something that was causing the issues with the z-stick?

Anyway - I upgraded the macOS to 12.3.1 on the Mac-mini (with the Apple Chip) and will wait until a version of Indigo is available for Monterey 12.3.1 and above and continue to run Indigo on my Mac-mini with High Sierra.

NOTE: Indigo 2022.1 has solved the compatibility issue with macOS Monterey 12.3+.

Re: No Ack for many devices on Z network

I started to have a similar issue today out of the blue. I tried just about everything. I pulled the Aeotec and plugged it back in. it is in a powered USB hub like it has been for years, I did upgrade to a new macmini M1 about 2 months ago with no issues. Running 12.2. Some of the error messages below. The only way I ended up resolving it was to plug it into a different port on the USB hub and change the port to match. in indigo. Boom everything worked again. weird.

Re: No Ack for many devices on Z network

I continue to have the problem of no acknowledgement from many of my Z-wave modules. I haven't been able to figure out a solution yet. Since some other indigo users are also having this problem, requesting tech support to develop an algorithm to identify the problem and sort it, does it need a change in the Z-stick controller? re-pairing of the modules, etc.

You never replied to Matt's reply to you above - that's the first step in helping diagnose your issue.
