Outdoor Motion Detector

Has anyone found a truly waterproof motion detector or perhaps an enclosure that protects the sensor? I am currently using Insteon model 2842 but they only last a year before failing. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Outdoor Motion Detector

We are using RFX outdoor motion sensors (very cheap) but maybe this is a good Z-Wave alternative:

or when you are using the Philips Hue bridge (with the HUE plugin);:

Re: Outdoor Motion Detector

I have been using OPTEX sensors for years, they are mostly commercial grade and expensive. Have one duel beam infrared wireless motion detector mounted on a tree at the end of the driveway that has been working great for 15 years. Being a duel beam infared it does not detect animals except the dear. You need your own wireless transmitter that fits inside the detector. I am using a honeywell transmitter that connects to my vista alarm panel, which connects to indigo with the AD2USB plugin.

Here is a link to the Optex sight https://optexpinnacle.com/intrusion-detection-sensors/

All of my sensors are there older version duel bean sensor. There current version is the VXI series which can be hard wired or wireless. there is a less expensive (LX) but not duel beam and may detect smaller animals. They also make wireless two part break beam detectors that can be placed up to 150 feet apart.

Many of there detectors are available from Amcest.

Re: Outdoor Motion Detector

I use similar to Elwood. Texecom’s external dual beam sensors. No false triggers due to dual beam ( Except when cat decides to jump vertically through both beams !) and ultra reliable. But not small and need wiring in.

Re: Outdoor Motion Detector

I've had good luck with Zooz ZSE29 Outdoor Motion Sensor (Z-Wave)

They are powered by 3 AA batteries. The case is screwed shut and has a gasket. I don't know if it would withstand heavy direct rainfall, but I do have them exposed to the elements without issue thus far.

Use non-secure inclusion.

I mentioned it in a similar thread some months ago:
