Re: Aeotec Z-stick Gen7

Yeah, looks pretty complete and actually been wondering why stick is not available yet since there are Aeotec gen7 products already out in the wild...

I wonder if that will be small enough to use the second USB port on a new Mac mini?

Re: Aeotec Z-stick Gen7

Is it me, or does the USB dongle look like it's made out of plastic?

Maybe it's just a mock up.

I came here to drink milk and kick ass....and I've just finished my milk.

It’s not transparent aluminum.

I do love that whole scene.. then Scotty discussing with McCoy about messing with the timeline and scotty saying How do we know he didn’t invent the bloody thing? It was a good movie.

Re: Aeotec Z-stick Gen7

I've just ordered one of these. Anyone tried it yet, or more importantly tried to upgrade from a Gen5 to a Gen 7 z-stick?

Yes and no :)

I have a Gen 7 Z-Stick running fine on my Indigo 7.5 development system. Unlike the Gen 5, you have to install a Silabs driver as you used to have to do with the original S2 Z-Stick - check this link: Z-Stick 7 user guide.

I have a Gen 7 Z-Stick and a couple of Range Extender 7s "in-stock" and waiting to be installed on my production Indigo system. It will replace a Gen 5 (original) Z-Stick. I won't get round to doing that for a while as I will also be testing out some Heltun Quinto relays first. I aim to replace all my first gen Z-Wave mains powered devices with Gen 7 (if possible).

The investigations I have done so far seem to indicate that you can't backup a Gen 5 and restore to a Gen 7; at least there isn't anything I can find on the Aeotec site that says that you can.

Re: Aeotec Z-stick Gen7

Confirmed by Aeotec tech support, only way to upgrade is to un-pair and re-pair everything. The memory map and size is different. They'll let me know if they come up with something. I guess most other software automation systems support secondary controllers so that you can migrate over time. Unfortunately, Indigo does not.....

Re: Aeotec Z-stick Gen7

Is there any way that indigo could? I'm sure I read somewhere that the Z Wave interference is simply a plugin. before the current version of the Hue plugin supported multiple hubs there was a hack that allowed it to be added more than once as a plugin.

I have a gen5 stick with over 200 devices and I'm having a fair few issues with, I've replaced it and transferred a backup and still have issues. I have now got to the point that I think the stick crashes and takes 15 seconds or so to connect again.
I would like to move to the gen7 stick but the thought of pairing 200 devices isn't funny! Some are locks that aren't close to the controller and weren't good to add in the first instance.
I've read that with home automation it's possible to add a second and then over time transfer them over.

Any ideas welcome
