Re: GE Z-Wave Plus Smart Motion Switch

It might work out of the box to some extent but it's hard to know exactly without someone actually trying it. My guess is that turning the switch on/off from Indigo will work fine. You can manually set the associations it supports. Not sure that the motion sensor portion is actually exposed as a separate device though.

Re: GE Z-Wave Plus Smart Motion Switch

So a followup on this.

When I add the switch, it creates two devices: the light switch, and the notification sensor.

However, when I try to setup a trigger based on the notification sensor's On state, nothing seems to work. Is there any sort of info I can provide to help with this?

The light switch portion seems to work fine. Only the notification portion doesn't work.

Re: GE Z-Wave Plus Smart Motion Switch

Turn on Indigo's Z-Wave debug logging checkbox (via the Interfaces->Z-Wave->Configure... menu item), then trip the motion sensor a few times (waiting a few minutes between each to let it reset). Copy/paste the Event Log results into a reply for us so we can see what commands it is sending.

Re: GE Z-Wave Plus Smart Motion Switch

Any progress on this? Would more information help? I have two GE Z-Wave Plus Smart Motion Dimmers. They also come up as two devices (Multilevel Switch and Notification Sensor), on the same Z Wave ID. Any details I can provide?

Re: GE Z-Wave Plus Smart Motion Switch

I just got my Aeotec Z-Stick Gen 5 in and am looking at this exact switch as well. The motion sensor feature is very appealing. Any word on if this works in Indigo 7.2 properly?

I’m interested to know as well. I have one on my bench and haven’t tested it yet.

Re: GE Z-Wave Plus Smart Motion Switch

I got a wild hair and decided to bench test this switch (mine is actually the Smart Motion Dimmer). It included into Indigo quickly and (as alluded to above) results in 2 devices with the switch being the master.

  • The switch reacts to Indigo commands -- On, Off, Dim.
  • The switch reports local control to Indigo -- On, Off, Dim
  • The switch DOES NOT appear to report motion to Indigo.
  • There is also apparently a light sensor as (according to the docs) the switch can be set to only turn the light on when it's dark) but I suspect that this also does not have a Z-Wave hook.

Z-Wave                          received "047 - Notification Sensor" status update is off.  <-- automatic switch report

It doesn't appear that motion sensor reports activity that the Indigo notification sensor device can detect. In fact, there may be no Zwave activity on sensed motion at all:
Code: Select all
   Z-Wave Debug                    RCVD requestAlarmSensorStatus: 01 0F 00 04 00 2F 09 71 05 00 00 00 FF 07 08 00 56

   Z-Wave Debug                    . .  requestAlarmSensorStatus: typeExt 7, valueExt 8, classSubKeyExt 7100000708
   Z-Wave Debug                    RCVD requestDimmerStatus: 01 09 00 04 00 2F 03 26 03 32 C9
   Z-Wave Debug                    . .  requestDimmerStatus: node 047, endpoint None, value 50
Z-Wave                          received "047 - Mulitlevel Switch" status update brightness 51

It seems the switch detects motion, turns on the light, and then the light reports its status to Indigo. For giggles, I tried encryption, but the device doesn't support it.

Extra Credit: the color changing kit is only for the buttons. If you switch to the cream color, the motion sensor will still be white.

EDIT: Turns out, you can capture motion events using a Match Raw Packet trigger type. See below:

Re: GE Z-Wave Plus Smart Motion Switch

Thanks for digging into this. My interest in this was the motion sensor. If that were a readable value, then I could have a motion detector built right into the switch that I could use in Indigo. Too bad.

Re: GE Z-Wave Plus Smart Motion Switch

Dave, can you add association for group 2 and 3 to Indigo (node 1)?

PeteMatheson has an outdoor light - not sure model - that behaves very similar to this. I believe Motion is sent to group 2 or 3, intended to turn on other Zwave lights by direct association rather than as a trigger to controller?
