Z-Stick (2??) not working & can't reconfigure

Hi Everyone:

Things were running smoothly as is so typical for Indigo s/w but, unbeknownst to me, my Z-stick, stopped functioning. I can't relate it to an upgrade in s/w (Indigo 6.1) or OS (I upgraded to El Capitan some time ago).

I tried downloading the driver and reinstalling it (following the reconfig page here: http://wiki.indigodomo.com/doku.php?id= ... te_drivers ).

When I go to reinstall, instead of seeing "SLAB_USBtoUART" in the Serial Port Dropdown I see "usbserial-A501LCMO" (see attached). No other option is available.

Meanwhile, as before, the z-wave interface is crossed-out and in red at the lower-left of the Indigo window.

Does anyone have any idea on how I can fix this?

Many thanks in advance!

Wayne

That "usbserial-A501LCMO" is an FTDI device, not the Z-Stick. I'm assuming you're using a series 2 Z-Stick. Open a terminal window and paste in:

Code: Select all
ls -la /dev/tty.*

and put the results in a reply.

Also, make sure your Z-Stick is plugged directly into a USB port on your Mac.

Re: Z-Stick (2??) not working & can't reconfigure

Interesting, Jay. I made no physical changes - the z-stick was plugged into via a USB hub - been that way since day 1. And you're right, it's a black, z-stick 2.

I ran your terminal code and got:
Last login: Mon Aug 22 19:17:10 on console
Lserver:~ waynelevin$ ls -la /dev/tty.*
crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 18, 2 22 Aug 19:17 /dev/tty.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port
crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 18, 4 22 Aug 19:17 /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART
crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 18, 0 22 Aug 19:17 /dev/tty.usbserial-A501LCMO
Lserver:~ waynelevin$

But this time, I was able to select SLAB_USBtoUART, which I did and the z-wave interface is now active.

I have two motion sensors on z-wave. I can't say I'm happy with them anyway. They appear to be mis-calibrated (way lower temperature than for real), it appears i can't read temp in C and they don't respond to motion as fast as the Insteon motion sensors (which too have problems - especially around the dip switches). I guess I'm just not a happy camper!

But I'm happy with your great s/w and great support.

Thanks, Jay

Wayne

Which motion sensors are you using? I've been using the older Aeotec multisensor 5's for years and they are lightyears better than the Insteon ones.

Also didn't realize that the Insteon motion sensors did C - is that a setting? Oh, wait, they don't do temp...

I'm using the Aeotec MultiSensor. I heard that they were better than the Insteon hence the addition of z-wave to my system.

Well, our collective experience is that they're faster, more reliable (at motion sensing). I don't use mine for exact temp measurement, so being a degree or two off doesn't bother me.

If you'd like a pretty easy way to convert the temperature value from the sensor to Celsius, then take a look at this very useful plugin.
