Device Over-the-air Firmware Updates

I have a Domitech LED bulb. Their support mentioned that features I require in the bulb are available by applying a Z-Wave Over-the-Air firmware update to the bulb.

Is this over-the-air update available in Indigo?

Firmware updates would need to come from Domitech.

Yes, the actual firmware would come from Domitech. As it was described, and as I understand it, there is a feature within Z-Wave that performs Over-The-Air updates of firmware on Z-Wave devices.

I'm not familiar with this. I don't know whether it's something that is new. I have seen it discussed on several other HA forums.

The ability to perform Over-The-Air updates is something Indigo would have to support.

Yes, it's a new feature that came (I think) with ZWave Plus.

Indigo doesn't yet support it; I guess it will be on the Indigo 7 wishlist but we won't know if it makes it until they release it.

I think (though I've no Plus or Gen5 devices) there's other apps available (free?) that can do this upgrade for you - it doesn't need to be Indigo.

Yeah, Indigo doesn't have OTA firmware updating capability yet and some vendors require that you use their proprietary, often Windows based, updater apps to OTA update their modules. That is, even if Indigo had the capability some vendors won't release the raw .bin firmware file to us (or anyone).

Did the OTA firmware update capability get included in newer versions of Indigo?

Nope, 'fraid not yet.

Shame, it’s one of the only reasons I originally went from Vera to Fibaro Home Centre. I’m now experimenting with Indigo.

As with many things, all of the systems have good and bad points, so far the ui and OTA updates are where I think my niggles are with Indigo.

It will obviously vary by user depending on the modules you have, but I’ve used Indigo for 4 years and never wished for OTA updating because none of my ~50 devices support it anyway.

As Matt said above, most manufacturers require you to use Windows PCs to do the update with their own software so it’s out of Indigo’s hands for those manufacturers.

What don’t you like about the UI?

Bearing in mind I’ve only used it for a day so far, the ui is a bit too textual, I don’t mind it but getting the wife to access may be a challenge. She liked fibaro because put simply, it was pretty. It looked nice and was simple. I’ve only got a sensor, a switch and my evo home heating on there so far. Testing things before I take the plunge and move 60+’devices and all my scenes over from fibaro.

Have you found Control Pages yet.

They take a bit of designing, but those should be the primary interaction with Indigo for your wife and guests. Only you should really be in the Indigo client itself, in general.

Good idea! WAF has always been an issue, it’s why most of my house is fully automated and if you want manual she just asks Siri or Alexa and no apps or gui have to be involved at all then.
