Secure SES 303 & SES 002

I have just purchased a Secure SES 303 Temperature & Humidity Sensor and 4 x SES 002 Pipe/Tank Temperature Sensors that daisy chain into the SES 303.

The SES 303 is a Z-Wave Plus Gen 5 device and I have successfully sync'd it and included it into Indigo. :)

That's the good news but of course Indigo doesn't have the correct info for the device (yet) and so I can't see any meaningful readings:

Writing the device info to the log gives the following info:
Code: Select all
Indigo Device "Bathroom Thermostat" Z-Wave Properties:
Indigo Z-Wave Version: 1.0.360
Node ID: 146
Model: Multilevel Sensor (routing)

Config Values: - none -
The manuals are available here (for SES 303) and here (for SES 002)

Hopefully this is enough info for the devices to be able to be defined to Indigo

My intention is to be able to monitor the temperature and humidity in the bathroom while at the same time monitoring the temperature of the water in the hot water tank at four different levels. :)

I guess this will be another sensor waiting on Indigo 7 but I thought I would add it to the queue

Re: Secure SES 303 & SES 002

Hi Matt,
I have done a bit more testing (for which read exclude/include and re-syncing - multiple times  ). I wanted to see what the effect was on removing a couple of the sensors and then adding them back in again. Indigo correctly picked up the number of sensors attached at syncing time which is good news from the point of view that I then knew that the SES 303 was detecting the sensors correctly. :)

Anyway, as if by magic, the temperatures are now being reported - maybe the original include/exclude/sync process wasn't 100% - it isn't the easiest module to go through this process with.

Here's the evidence :) :

The Device info now looks like this:
Code: Select all
Indigo Device "Bathroom Thermostat" Z-Wave Properties:
Indigo Z-Wave Version: 1.0.360
Node ID: 150
Model: Multilevel Sensor (routing)
Model ID: 000D0003
Manufacturer: Horstmann
Manufacturer ID: 0059
Protocol Version: 3.95
Application Version: 1.00
Model Definition Version: 0

Command Class Base: 31

Multi-Endpoint Types: 1:(21 : 01), 2:(21 : 01), 3:(21 : 01), 4:(21 : 01), 5:(21 : 01)
Multi-Endpoint Classes: 1:[31 85 70 86 59 5E 73 72 80 84 5A], 2:[31 85 70 86 59], 3:[31 85 70 86 59], 4:[31 85 70 86 59], 5:[31 85 70 86 59]
Multi-Instance Counts: - none -
Features: routing, battery, beaming, waking
Neighbors: 1, 5, 44, 53, 55, 58, 65, 66, 83, 90, 91, 100, 103, 104, 106, 107, 108, 109, 131, 132, 133, 135, 144, 145
Associations: 1:[1]
Config Values: - none -
It appears to be the same as previously AFAICS.

When I press the button on the SES 303 it only appears to send the temperature from the SES 303 as no info is sent from the SES 002s. I got the sensor readings by pressing the Send Status Request button on the Indigo UI for the Bathroom Thermostat (SES 303) device, quickly followed by a button press on the SES 303 and then got the following response:
Z-Wave sent "Bathroom Thermostat" status request
Z-Wave sent "Water Tank Sensor 1" status request
Z-Wave sent "Water Tank Sensor 2" status request
Z-Wave sent "Water Tank Sensor 3" status request
Z-Wave sent "Water Tank Sensor 4" status request
Z-Wave received "Bathroom Thermostat" sensor update to 22.44 °C
Z-Wave received "Bathroom Thermostat" sensor update to 22.44 °C
Z-Wave received "150 - Bathroom Thermostat" status update battery level 100%
Z-Wave received "Water Tank Sensor 1" sensor update to 21.75 °C
Z-Wave received "Water Tank Sensor 2" sensor update to 21.00 °C
Z-Wave received "Water Tank Sensor 3" sensor update to 20.75 °C
Z-Wave received "Water Tank Sensor 4" sensor update to 21.31 °C

I have also received the humidity (I think) which appears to come through slightly later:
Z-Wave received "Bathroom Thermostat" sensor update to 57.15%
However, I can't see this reading in the Indigo UI.

btw - The sensors aren't attached to water tank yet - hence the low readings (normal ambient) :)

Re: Secure SES 303 & SES 002

Out of interest how are you planning to measure 4 levels in the tank? I've got sensors on mine for top and bottom of the tank, but only because the tank I have can use two solar panels but just has one hooked up.

Computer says no.

Actually, I am likely to be measuring an input pipe (to the pump) and three tank levels: Top, Middle and Bottom. :)

Ooh good idea, I never thought about the input pipe! Gosh darn it, now I need to buy more sensors!

Hi Matt,
Appears this didn't make it into the initial release of Indigo 7.

The temperature sensor of the 1st device is working OK. The additional sensors aren't providing any info.

Thanks :)

Re: Secure SES 303 & SES 002

Indigo 7.1.1 is now available for download and supports the Horstmann Temperature Sensors (SES302/SES303).

Re: Secure SES 303 & SES 002

@Matt

I have added a Secure SES 303 and added the Pipe/tank temp sensor.

The Device is only showing One Temperature.

Is that correct - I had expected to show the Temp Sensor inside the SES303 AND the Pipe Temp Sensor.

Is there something else that needs to be done to get the Pipe Sensor showing?

Thanks

Mike

Re: Secure SES 303 & SES 002

Hi @Busta999,

I think you have to include it onto the Z-Stick with the sensors attached otherwise the Z-Stick doesn't know they are there. :)

So if you haven't done that, exclude and then re-include.

Re: Secure SES 303 & SES 002

Jon

You were right.

What a TOTAL pain that is - the micro button to include is obscured massively when you put the backplate on with has the connectors for the Pipe Sensor.

The person who designed that module needs taking out back and shooting!!!

One to he worst designed Z-Wave devices I have ever seen - absolutely no consideration on how a user will have to use it.

Thanks Jon!!

Re: Secure SES 303 & SES 002

I have experienced your pain.

I had to loosen all the cables inside my airing cupboard to free up the cable enough to ease it back through the wall so I could get the Thermostat off the wall on the other side to be able to access the button to do the exclude / include.

As you say, not a very clever or user friendly design!

Re: Secure SES 303 & SES 002

A question for thos of you (just you two?) that have this working.

I have included the SES 303 with one SES002 attached.

Indigo is showing temperature, humidity and temperature 2.

I have then left it with the pipe sensor resting against a radiator, before I start fitting it properly to pipes and the like.

The main temperature and humidy has duely updated the values, however the temp 2 value has not changed at all.

Looking in the logs I can see sensor updates for humidity and temp 1, but nothing for temp 2.

Are the external temp probes working for you?

Sam.

Yes but ... :)

The only way I could get it to work is to poll it on a regular basis by using Peter's Z-Wave Sensor Logger

Once the plugin is installed, you create a device with type of Z-Wave Sensor Logger and model ZWave Temperature Logger and set the Actual ZWave Device to be your main SES device.

You can then set up a schedule to repeat on a regular basis by invoking the Z-Wave Sensor Logger Actions Request Temperature Reports for the main device and Request Temperature for Endpoint for the attached sensors (one in your case). The requests get queued and will be responded to on the next wakeup. I have the device set to a 10 minute wakeup.

I have my main unit in the main bathroom with a hole through the wall into the airing cupboard where the four attached sensors monitor the temperature of the hot water from the boiler and high / medium / low levels of the water tank. I then use Dave's Matplotlib plugin to print out a graph of the temperatures.

Re: Secure SES 303 & SES 002

Okay, thanks Jon.

I had assumed Indigo v7.1.1 support mentioned by Matt meant all of it. I will check out the Sensor Logger. I'm already using the matplotlib plugin.

I pretty much have the same use case as you, but have held off buying another three sensors until I knew it worked.

Sam.
