All On / All Off command

I have been using Z-wave for a few years, but have never bothered to look into the All On / All Off command. I have a Aeon Minimote that sends those commands and all my Z-wave plugs follows the command sent. What I don't understand is how this is supposed to be used, I guess that I should be able to differentiate between lights and other devices like appliances, so that the All On/ All Off only affects the lights, for example.

When the Minimote is sending the All On / All Off command, it doesn't show in the Indigo log. Is the command sent directly to the devices from the Minimote without involving Indigo?

Then there is the "All Lights On" and "All Lights Off" in Indigo as an action. I guess that I have to configure the light devices in Indigo as "Lights" then?

Thanks!

Peter

Re: All On / All Off command

It's my understanding that the all on/all off is handled at the device profile level, to ensure that only appropriate device types respond to the command.

The attached image is the profile for a Leviton in-wall light switch, which you would think would respond to all on / all off, but my suspicion is that this is what the manufacturer chose to support (or not). I don't know how Indigo handles the Minimote.

What I have done is created six action groups:
    Turn on all inside lights
    Turn off all inside lights
    Same for outside lights
    Same for all lights

Which for my purposes works just fine. Good luck!

Re: All On / All Off command

Here are the profiles of the Minimote and the Aeon Gen5 switch. The Minimote sends All On when pressing button 1+2 and All Off when pressing button 3+4. The Aeon switch responds to the commands. However I can't see anything about this in the profiles. I did pretty much the same thing as you did with action groups, a bit curious about the All On / All Off though.

Re: All On / All Off command

I believe Z-Wave all on/off occurs within the transmitting device itself. All it does is send the on/off commands to all devices that have direct associations with the buttons.

Re: All On / All Off command

The devices responding to the All On/Off command actually isn't associated with the Minimote, they just belong to the same Z-wave network.
