amazon is selling the trane TZEMT400BB3NX z-wave thermostat for $78.99 (free shipping via amazon prime).
i've heard some positive things about this thermostat in the forum. also it seems to be same hardware (possibly with different plastics?) as the RCS z-wave thermostat.
price-wise, smarthome sells it for $115. homedepot.com and lots of other places are $150. MSRP seems to be $300. so amazon's $79 seems like a pretty decent price.
i've installed a few of the venstar-insteon models and while they seem ok, they are sometimes glitchy and every few months or so seem to take on crazy set points for unknown reasons. for now, i'll leave my insteon units in place, but i'll put these trane units in a few locations where i have old non-communicating thermostats.
any advice for/against? other recommended thermostats?
these would be my first z-wave devices. so for now, the extent of my z-wave "mesh" would be 2-3 devices in widely separated locations in my house, plus i guess the aeotec z-stick interface. should i expect signal propagation problems with a sparse and widely distributed network?
