Sync Using node: (wrong device) sorta working - Resolved

EDIT: A restart of my indigo machine and indigo fixed the errors I was seeing. Details of what I was seeing are below.

For the first time in a few years, my front door lock didn't want to respond tonight.
This device is: "Front Door - Keypad Door Lock" and it is address/node 12.
Checked on "Define and Sync..." and noticed that "Sync Using Node: 012 - ZWP09 - Bill's Popcorn Lights"

Under "Nodes used by other devices", I see 009 - ZWP09 - Bill's Popcorn Lights"

Ok. Not sure how I did that.

After looking around at the device settings and the lock manager plugin settings (without making any changes) the lock began responding again.

Does the sync using node (different device) have any affect on performance?
How do I fix this? Do I need to fix this? Re-add as new? I have a ton of triggers associated with the lock, so I'm hesitant to poke it too much in fear that I'll have to re-write tons of triggers and such.

Re: Sync Using node: (wrong device) but mostly working

I think I'd just wait and see if it happens again, then we can try to collect more information.

Sounds like a plan to me. Some indigo stuff, like Z-Wave, DSC plugin, GhostXML and many others, have been so rock-solid, I've never had to peak under the hood to educate myself on how it works to troubleshoot. So I may not revisit this thread for another 10 years. :D

Sync Using node: (wrong device) - Happened again.

Tonight it did it again.... same situation.... different device.
I have a fish tank light that turns on/off at certain times running from a Monoprice plug-in (HKZW-SO03)

"ZWP08 Relay Power Switch - Fish Tank Lights" on Node 010

At the same time, I was running into an SQL logger error. I tried restarting that plugin, but I get a nonstop error message in my log.... so I disabled that (Will address in the appropriate forum)

Tried to turn off the fish tank light again (hoping somehow a buggy plugin was causing it).... nope.
Z-Wave Error unable to execute action -- could not find controller module/node

Looked under the hood of the device , another oddity under Define and Sync...
Sync using node: 010 - Living Room Outlet Plug <- Right node, wrong device.

Note: Living Room Outlet Plug is on Node 6 and under that device's "Define and Sync".... it is set to itself "006 - Living Room Outlet Plug"

Anyway.... I hit "cancel" with the tank lights and tried to turn them off again.... and it worked.

Mar 29, 2023 at 9:36:55 PM
Z-Wave sent "ZWP08 Relay Power Switch - Fish Tank Lights" off
Z-Wave received "Living Room Outlet Plug" status update is off
Z-Wave sent "ZWP08 Relay Power Switch - Fish Tank Lights" on
Z-Wave received "Living Room Outlet Plug" status update is on
Z-Wave sent "ZWP08 Relay Power Switch - Fish Tank Lights" off
Z-Wave received "Living Room Outlet Plug" status update is off

I didn't want to keep testing because I didn't want to deal with fish having seizures or whatever happens if I kept flicking their light on/off/on.

I don't know if this is a only at night thing.... I'm guessing not.... It's just typically bed time when I start going through shutting down lights, making sure doors are locked, etc.

Last thing I did tonight.... I created a Z Wave watcher device for both the fish tank and the front door.... maybe that will help troubleshoot?

Right now I'm going through all of my zwave devices to see what other ones have "define and sync" associated with a different device. Will add a watcher device to any of those.

Edit: Went through all 54 Z-Wave devices.... I have 3 with mis-matched "sync using node", 1 needed an update (new definitions with latest indigo release) and 1 is not synced at all (I'll mess with that later after the kids go to school and the house quiets down)

As for the front door lock...
Locking or unlocking via indigo will update the lock icon, correctly lock/unlock the actual device, and both actions turn on the popcorn light GUI.
Locking or unlocking via the device (manual or keypad) works physically, does not update the device in indigo, all actions at the device turn on the popcorn light in GUI.

Example:
Code: Select all

Will try a full system reboot and see if that helps anything. (I've discovered several other devices/plugins/scripts acting funny during all of this as well)
Edit: After a full system reboot (machine and indigo) all three of the above devices are now synced properly and operating normally.
