Any success stories backing up Gen5 Zstick?

Been searching for a couple of days without success.

I tried the Aeotec software in a Fusion VM, Windows 10. Stick is loaded but on reading the Eprom I get errors. Not always at same spot but never completes.
Tried with my active stick and also a brand new one.

Has anyone been successful to back up the stick?

My Node ID is at 232. Would really like to back up the stick before trying to add a new device to see if it'll 'fill' with unused ID's.

Edit: Also tried a Win10 Virtual using VirtualBox. Same results. Starts to read Eprom but fails to complete.
I'm running this attempt on a MacBook Pro on Catalina with latest VMWare Fusion and Oracle VirtualBox and fresh Win10 VM.

I'm just going to try this myself because I've been meaning to for ages.. I assume you've installed the latest version v1.0.0.9 which is compatible with windows 10?

Computer says no.

I picked up the backup zip from Aeotec's site today.

Is there another?

No I just noticed that a few of the versions listed didn't work with windows 10, but if you got it today it should be up to date.

So I've just done exactly the same as you.. using VMWare Fusion Pro 11.5.0 running Windows 10 x64 it has worked fully and has successfully backed up my stick to a bin file.

Rats, for me :-)
What Mac hardware are you using. I did mine on a MacBook Pro.
Will try on iMac Pro.

Helps to know that it works for someone. Thank you.

I'm running it on a Mac mini 2018 running Catalina. Hope you have luck with it soon!

Matt & Jay have tried. The manufacturer won’t give them the info needed to do it.

Shame! I did recall them looking into it but I couldn’t remember the outcome.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Sort of understand Aeotec's side. Could be a complexity issue or simply wanted to keep a tight reign on their technology.

For me it's less of an issue now that I've confirmed a scheme.
A bit braver now :).
I'm going to build a VirtualBox on the MacMini that runs my HA and if successful it'll be a permanent addition.

Yeah, as a general philosophy we tend to shy away from firmware updating directly from Indigo. There is a lot that can go wrong with USB communication, and we really don't want to be liable for bricked hardware so anything we do in this direction is going to require a lot of thought and a ton of QA. All that said, the usability of having to use these non-Mac apps on a Mac is pretty terrible, so it is definitely still on my wish/request list.

so it is definitely still on my wish/request list.

As finicky as it seems to be, probably a good place for it :)

I tried running the backup in VirtualBox on the MacMini that runs Indigo... no luck. Eprom read never completes.
My MAcMini is a mid 2011, i7 with 16 GB running 10.12.6.

Went with VMWare Fusion 11.5 and a fresh Win10 Pro VM.
First attempt:
Stopped Indigo Server.
Eprom Read went almost to end but no success.
Second attempt:
Server still stopped, closed all other running apps.
Restarted the VM
Unplugged/replugged ZStick.
This time the backup ran to completion.

As I said, somewhat finicky, but it does work.
