First node mini arrived today and am seriously impressed! £4 for a controller that can drive these leds is awesome :)

Sadly my led strip I think is faulty only the first 30cm lights up, looks like a bulging solder joint at that point on the strip

Enough to test the effects with and they look really good.

Now to price up enough strips to do the windows at the front of the house! Think I’ll drop to 150 leds instead of 300 which takes 5m down to £20 instead of £30
Still means £40 or so per window!

Noel - you may have already tried this and be smarter than me, but have you updated the LED count in the LED setup screen in WLED. In my case I thought the same thing until I checked the setting, and I just noticed I miscounted and was still 1 short.

BTW I have a prototype plugin working. It is not too elegant (from a coding and error handling perspective) but I can add WLED devices as a dimmer object by IP address, dim and switch on and off. It needs more finesse but by the weekend I should have colour control and effects sorted and the other actions like toggle implemented as now I have cracked the basics it is just work defining states etc.

I will ultimately look to package for the plugin store, but I need to learn about all that is needed to make that work, but also happy to share on a "best intentions" basis as life may get in the way of my ability to respond

Sorry forgot to reply re plugin! Sounds awesome :)

Main thing I need to learn with wled is how to program / string effects together ie do x followed by y followed by z then repeat

I’m assuming that’s possible but haven’t dived in yet

:)

Noel - Here you go, from the WLED settings, none of the videos talk about this and I thought the same thing

Also this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnvircC22hU is an excellent explanation of the different addressable strip types.

Re: Outdoor Christmas Lights....recommendations please

It’s absolutely pouring down with rain here.... so I did the only sensible thing a man can do.... went outside with the step ladders for a little cheeky test installation!

Wife was out obviously!

So this is just held on with sellotape and it worked great! Not sure the videos and pictures come out well but hey ho here’s some led porn for like minded individuals!

Good news is that by doing it on the wooden window frame it’s less than 5m all the way around. :)

Just need to figure best and non permanent way to mount them.

Any suggestions for something that is weatherproof yet removable without damaging wood/paintwork?

Glue gun any good for this?

Hmm won’t let upload video, let me figure how to do that...

Amazon

16.4FT 5M WS2812B 300LEDS RGB LED Strip Lights Pixels Addressable Individulally Dream Color Chasing DC5V Digital Programmable IP66 Waterproof (Black PCB, IP66 300Leds) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07SDF2ZX5/ ... WDbA28Q1QM

First set I’ve bought is 300 leds for £29.99 will probably reduce to 150 leds as I think the effects will still be fine and lessens the pain of me doing four windows.
Then I’ll use the 300 led strip around the porch maybe

Controllers MakerHawk 3pcs ESP8266 NodeMCU LUA CP2102 ESP-12E WiFi Internet Development Board Serial Wireless Module for Arduino IDE/Micropython New Version https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07M8Q38LK/ ... WDbD98N9M3 no soldering needed

Power supply BTF-LIGHTING DC5V 20A 100W... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01D8FLWGE? ... b_ap_share

Oh and some jumpers, still need to figure how best to wire this ‘properly’ suspect I’ll run some pretty long cables from my porch cupboard but not sure if voltage drop will be an issue on likely 10m runs NANYI Jumper Wires Male to Male,... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07Q2K441Z? ... b_ap_share

All tips for affixing these to wooden frames appreciated

Re: Outdoor Christmas Lights....recommendations please

Going to give these a try https://www.amazon.co.uk/Command-Decora ... diy&sr=1-3

I think i'll be able to make a little hole in the back of the silicone (not worried about waterproofing from a very small hole) and use these to hold the top and bottom each side of the window.

I've also ordered the last 4 5m 150 led strips the amazon seller had so that's my weekend sorted :)

Now to figure out whether I can have one central PSU with 15m leads to the strips (I don't think that's possible with voltage drop) which means having 'local' PSU's at each window (more likely inside the window and wedge a thin cable through the bottom of the sash window) which is a pain but possible.

Can anyone confirm my thoughts re the ability to have central psu or not?

Outdoor Christmas Lights....recommendations please

Given how cheap the controllers are isn't it better to have local ones and short cable runs?

Local PSU and controller to keep it simple?
