Nice. I thought that the cloud key is a cloud gateway like Nest, which I wouldn't like. I already run their controller on raspberry pi, and it work well.

Yeah, that works just as well. It's a convenience option for users that don't have anything else running 24x7.

I must admit that I was confused by the name at first. It isn't required, but the Cloud Key also allows the ability to access the Unifi Controller from anywhere. I've accessed the system while on a plane at 35,000 feet.
