All, I'm likely going to be upgrading my network to all Ubiquiti hardware. I'm also considering their cameras and I'm curious as to anyone's experience with them. Also, it appears that they have some kind of NVR functionality built into some of their (dizzying array of) products and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with that.

Finally, is anyone using them with Blue Iris?

But in answer to your first non question, I have USG and 3APs of varying models and cannot be more impressed. Solid, reliable and super stable. Definitely recommend. Waiting for a need to upgrade to the switches.

Here my experience:

The unify cameras work ok.
I have 13.
Had 1 failure in 1 year (in warranty time) IR ring connection failed.

I have 4 different types
1. UVC-G3 - You can add IR ring
2. UVC-G3-Dome, would not buy again, looks ugly
3. UVC-G3-Flex, best for inside
4. UVC-G3-Micro, wifi only, very slick
5. UVG-G3-Prof, have not bought, too expensive, can do zoom

You can get config parameters from the NVR unix box, can read some parameters through web api and you can SET most parameters through the web API
and you can get snapshots directly from the camera and from the NVR (API or directory)

I have the NVR running in a vbox / debian on my mac pro2012, it uses ~ 1 CPU for 13 cameras with full resolution.

You can NOT use any non unifi cameras w this system

they are bring out a new "PROTECT" system. That looks like for consumers only, no api, no touching and it is still in beta.

Yep, I'm already sold on their network gear. I'm specifically looking for camera/nvr info.

I see that the CloudKey Gen2+ (maybe that's the UniFi Protect you're talking about) has storage for video - do you know if that thing run the NVR software or is that something else?

I bought that hardware and it is sitting idle.

Software is beta , no api, but the hardware looks really slick

Might work in a year.

I use the Cloudkey G2+ all the time, it works well for scrolling thru footage quickly, sending motion alerts and such, it records 24/7. The software seems to be maturing quite quickly.

I send RSTP streams to Security spy out of it as well.

The IOS app will send you push notification when the Protect detects motion, or the Protect will send you an email with a link and a picture of the event.

Like Karl said there is no API yet so not handy with Indigo, that's why I use security spy to handle those duties.

I have a mix of Unifi and Vivotek / Panasonic cameras so SecuritySpy is still needed, I bought the protect (G2+) on the early access store to try out and find myself using both SS and Protect.

Here is what is emailed (Thats SO and my pup Finn ):

The nvr on Linux has an api and you can read the database on the Linux box and listen to event log file
Read Params current config
Set params like Resolution, sound, record on off , snapshot , start steaming , led on off , or on off level....

The protect system has no api right now , but has options on the webpage to configure as Korey described.

I am waiting to try it until they have any kind of api.

Got it. Thanks for the info. Have you ever used SecuritySpy? If so, how does their NVR software compare?

You bet Jay, it's the least I can do for all you do!

I'm hoping that one day they will release an API and Karl can work his magic ..

The other cameras: 2 are wireless and the other a really old Panasonic hardwired in the Garage is not POE.

I have a 48 Port Unifi PoE Switch that I have removed the top and disconnected the teenie tiny fans and placed a giant slow moving fan above it as to keep it silent in the rack works great! also have a couple Unifi AP's mounted in the ceiling of the house.


I still run an Edgerouter (first Ubiquiti purchase) as I am waiting for a newer improved (HD-4?) version of the USG to appear..
