I didn't even know about this. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the tip.

To add to the coolness factor of the Shortcuts.app is that you can add shortcuts to Home.app scenes to the iOS notification center.

Example:
Homekit Bridge Action --> Home.app --> Shortcuts.app --> Notification Center Widget

  • Add an Indigo action to the Homekit Bridge plugin (or use an existing one)
  • Create a scene in Home.app that points to the Homekit Bridge action device (or create a Home.app scene from scratch)
  • Add the Shortcuts.app widget to the notification center (if needed)
  • Create a Shortcuts.app shortcut that points to the Home.app scene (be sure to select 'Add to Widget' under settings)

I haven't yet played with the 'Add to Siri' setting since you can trigger Home.app scenes with Siri already.

Cool!

May have spoken too soon. I need to do a bit more research to figure out what's going on, but my widget call to run a scene this morning didn't work.

Last night, my "Bedtime" scene widget call worked instantly. This morning, my "Morning" scene widget call didn't work--after pressing the button, it changed to include a progress indicator with a stop button (a stop button with a circle around it) and then just sat there. Interestingly, invoking the same shortcut from inside the Shortcuts.app worked instantly as did invoking the scene directly from the Home.app (I didn't try invoking it through Siri). It may be that the Shortcuts.app widget isn't fully baked yet, but it's also possible that I didn't implement the shortcut properly.

I'll report back if I figure anything out.

I’ve had similar experiences with Shortcuts without including the Home app. Running them as widgets is a bit hit and miss. Running them from the app is much more reliable. Can’t figure out why.

Thanks for letting me know that I'm not alone. It's not a deal breaker if the widget doesn't work all the time, but it's such a nice feature that I hope any bugs are squashed quickly.

I’m thinking this, with a Siri keyword
