How good is the WiFi AP in the UniFi Dream Machine (UDM)?

A friend is thinking of getting one. He's wondering how good the built in AP is. Any comments?

Is basically the same as their standalone AP-AC-Pro ( Dual-band Wave 2 access point (802.11ac, 4x4) ). However, not sure it has the 3-antennas as the standalone.

I'm quite happy with mine. I was *almost* able to get rid of my secondary Unifi AP that serves the garage and some of the yard, but then my house is very long and narrow for its size, and the network closet is off center to the side opposite the garage.

The UDM range definitely exceeded the range and power of the Airport Base Station I replaced.

I'll echo what DC said above. Its pretty robust.

Mostly agree but it's not as powerful vertically - I have mine on the first floor of my house and I needed to install another AP (FlexHD, wired backhaul) in my third-floor attic to have good signal there (critical, since that's the work-from-home office).

I agree, but this applies to any Unifi wifi product. My house is a relatively new construction with three floors, built all with concrete, blocks, and metal studs (a good thing for South Florida), and I need one AP-AC-Pro per floor and one for the outside.

Couldn't those who live in silos just mount their APs horizontally?
