[ANSWERED]: Controlling An Apple TV

I have the Onkyo plugin working and it is fantastic! Kudos to RogueProeliator! I would love to create a control page that would merge control of the receiver with control of my Apple TV. Is there a way to do that, or am I slated to always use the Remote app for the ATV?

Re: Controlling An Apple TV

You basically have two ways of controlling the atv via indigo.. Either jailbreak a 2nd gen model and use the air control plugin, or get something like an iTach IR transmitter and control it via infrared signals. Apple has no public API for the Apple TV at this time :(

Computer says no.

Roomie might, but there's still no public api available.

Re: [ANSWERED]: Controlling An Apple TV

Roomie appears to use aTV Flash, for which you need to jailbreak your Apple TV.

I don't see Matt and Jay allowing any plugin which requires jailbreaking your Apple devices, given that their livelihood is dependant on Apple not blocking Indigo from the App store(s).

Re: [ANSWERED]: Controlling An Apple TV

I actually did build the AirControl plugin (unofficial though it might be) to control jailbroken Apple TVs. But howartp is correct - we would never make a core part of the product dependent on jailbroken features.

Re: [ANSWERED]: Controlling An Apple TV

Roomie doesn't require jailbreak. They came out with ip about 4 months ago. Not sure how they did it but I have full control of ATV via IP and had to do nothing to my ATV other than allow roomie access.

Re: [ANSWERED]: Controlling An Apple TV

This is correct. I have been using roomie to control AppleTVs for a couple years no jailbreak. I believe they do it in a legit way through the remote interface.

Re: [ANSWERED]: Controlling An Apple TV

There is no published API for this, so either they reverse engineered it or Apple provided them with a private API to do it. In either case, it's not something that we can/will do. Harmony also controls them via IP, but again it's not a published API unfortunately.

Re: [ANSWERED]: Controlling An Apple TV

Ok thanks. After reading some more about it on the simple forums it does appear they reverse engineered the ip control.
