Re: INSTEON PowerLinc Modem (2413U)

Am I correct the SLAB driver is not needed for the 2413U with 7.0 and above. So the configuration to use is the usbserial-A600B3PW?

Re: INSTEON PowerLinc Modem (2413U)

I have tried all the suggestions I could find and none worked. I ordered a Dynex 7 as another attempt. Meanwhile, my smart house has become a dumb house.

No chance of being able to downgrade to El Capitan or Sierra?

The Silicon Labs driver (SLAB) is required for the Z-Stick Series 2 and must be installed by the user (it's not included with macOS). Apple started bundling the FTDI driver (usbserial-*) with macOS several years ago which is required for the PowerLinc so no extra install needed. The Z-Stick Gen5 uses the built-in modem driver which is also included with macOS.

That's a quote (at least very close) from the operations VP from when I was a lowly engineering manager discussing a WebSphere upgrade MANY years ago. While the circumstances were different, the sentiment really stayed with me.

If your automation is important, it definitely pays to search the forums before making OS changes. We always post about new OS upgrades in the Announcements section.

Ok, good advice. Btw, I used to own Websphere at IBM way back at the beginning in 1995. What about the 2448a7 as an alternative. Does that work with High Sierra?

I don't know that anyone has tried it. It uses the same FTDI chip internally that the PowerLinc does so those parts are common. We don't know what causes the problem though so who knows.

Re: INSTEON PowerLinc Modem (2413U)

Spoke to SmartHome. They said the 2413U has no follow on product in plans. Also said 2448A7 is obsolete and no longer sold. I found one on Amazon. Found someone on another thread who said the 2448 works just fine with High Sierra. I will report on my experience with it tomorrow. Also spoke with Apple. As expected, they said must be something Indigo needs to change to accommodate High Sierra.

Thought I would post this here for those with a bad 2413U out of warranty and don't mind doing some soldering:

I ordered my capacitors for my next modem emergency, there's even a link in the comments section with the materials all picked out.

Re: INSTEON PowerLinc Modem (2413U)

Congratulations to toille27 for a great job to repair a 2413U. In my case, the 2413U is Ok but it does not work with High Sierra. I learned about the 2448A7 and ordered one from Amazon. I plugged it into a Dynex 7 next to the z-stick gen 5. It works fine. It takes quite a while to re-establish and update links. Many devices need a separate Define and Sync. The performance is noticeably slower, but it works. I talked to SmartHome. They said the 2448 is discontinued and there are no follow on plans for the 2413U. Seems they need to think about their strategy. I would happily change everything to z-wave, but to my knowledge, there is no equivalent to the keypadlinc.

Re: INSTEON PowerLinc Modem (2413U) suddenly erratic

Hi Jay,

After years of no problems I suddenly getting these messages every few minutes in my log.

Feb 23, 2018, 9:39:12 AM
Power Failure possible power failure
Connected to PowerLinc 2413U interface on port usbserial-A704EOHA
PowerLinc address 3C.4A.B7, firmware version 9.14
Interface Failure lost connection with interface

What could be causing this. It started a couple of days ago. All of the connections are tight and I've unplugged and repulsed the USB and power connections multiple times and restarted the Mac and IndigoServer.

Everything seems to actually work inspire of the log messages.

Thanks,

Mike

Sounds like the slow death to me. Mine was the same, worked for years and started getting a bit flakey and POOF one day it stopped entirely.
