Hub Won't Connect

My Hue Hub had its IP address change. I selected the new one in the Hue Lights configure screen. It appeared to work. Then I tried to turn on a light and it said it couldn't find the hub. Here are the log entries:

Jun 14, 2023 at 8:30:44 PM
Hue Lights Attempting to pair with the Hue bridge at "192.168.1.12".
Hue Lights Paired with Hue bridge successfully.
Hue Lights validatePrefsConfigUi: Verified that this is a Hue bridge. Dont forget to <Save> at exit
Hue Lights debug areas:[]

Jun 14, 2023 at 8:31:08 PM
Hue Lights Error Failed to connect to the Hue bridge at 192.168.1.13 after 4 seconds. - Check that the bridge is connected and turned on.

Since the changes were successful and I saved the screen, why didn't it take?

Re: Hub Won't Connect

If I understand this correctly:

You must not add a new hub but just change ip number
There is an option for that

If you add a new one the old one still is active
Then you might get that error

Please delete the hub with the new ip then reload plugin ( just in case )
Then change ip number of old hub in config

If you keep the new hub and delete the old you will have indigo device orphans with your triggers etc linked to the old devices.

You might now have new devices that come from the hub with the new ip. They are copies of the old devices just with a different hub number

Re: Hub Won't Connect

Kari,

When you say 'new hub', are you referring to new hardware? I have the same physical hub, it's just that the internal IP address changed. I have tried both updating a hub and changing the IP address. Both changes seem to be ignored.

I just tried deleting the hub entry with the old IP address and it seemed to work.

However, it also seems to have created new device entries for all my Hue lights with the new IP address. They are named differently and I assume they won't work with my existing scripts. I'm going to have to somehow change the IP addresses on the correctly named devices or rename the devices with the correct IP address.

I really don't want to have to go through this process each time my router assigns a different IP address to my hub.

Re: Hub Won't Connect

You must not add a new hub when the ip number changes !!!

Then the old hub at the new ip number will auto create all its devices in indigo as it now has a new hub number

Eg device
name on the hub is lampx
Light# is 5
Hub number is 0

New ip number hub # is 1
New indigo device
Hue-1-5-lampx
Will be created (may be with _ instead of -)

There is an option to disable auto create devices in config

I am out of town until Sunday night
I can can then check the situation with changing ip numbers

Why are your ip numbers changing?
I strongly suggest to assign fixed ip numbers to important devices like the hue hub

Re: Hub Won't Connect

I changed the ip number of one of my hubs and it worked fine. Here the steps:

1. in indigo menu open plugins menu / hue lights / configure
2. click on "add/delete/modify a bridge"
3. in select action choose "change the ip number"
4. select the hue bridge w the old ip-number listed
5. enter new ip address in the open field
6. click to modify IP# <confirm> ( hub has to be online, try to ping the hub )
7. click on <Save> at the bottom.

No other action needed

you can check if it registered correctly with
plugins / hue menu / print config data to log / select short bridge status ... and or bridges config overview

Karl

ps
bridge == hub

Re: Hub Won't Connect

Karl,

Thanks. I had to delete one hub and change the IP on the other. I also had to rename a number of duplicate light devices and reassign the others.

It's a good idea about the fixed IP address. I just set that up on my router, so hopefully it won't happen again.

Re: Hub Won't Connect

Yes if you duplicate a hub it will create all devices again just with a different hub number
