New Email+ Plugin with Indigo 2021.1 and later

With the release of Indigo 2021.1, we removed the old built-in email capabilities and replaced it with the Email+ Plugin which is based on the Better Email plugin from forum user @FlyingDiver (many thanks for his generous contribution). The 2021.1 installer will migrate both old settings and actions from the built-in email and any devices and actions from Better Email if it was installed.

If you are using a version prior to Indigo 2021.1, you should be using the Better Email plugin since it's significantly more reliable than the old built-in email. We will leave that plugin in the Plugin Store for users of older versions of Indigo.

Note that if you were directly scripting Better Email actions, you'll either need to leave Better Email installed, or your scripts will need to be changed to use the new Email+ plugin's identifier. Changing the scripts is the better solution.

You can't actually continue to use the Better Email plugin after upgrading. But all the scripting and broadcast messages are still there, so you just need to change the ID in your scripts and subscriptions:

Agreed. I think we will eventually update the

indigo.server.sendEmailTo()

function to accept the same parameters that the direct scripting supports so it won't require getting the plugin instance first. It'll knock off a few lines of code...

Yeah, we really should have kept this discussion in the private beta forum until we actually release.

Not yet, but we're super close. Watch the Announcements section or the Blog.

When 2021.1 ships it will contain functions of the Better Email plugin as standard. The Better Email plugin allows users to access some of its features with Python scripts (and through other plugins). We're simply discussing what features will be included.

Right! This thread had me searching the blog, clicking "Check for Updates" and trying to understand why I can't find the 2021.1 version.

Note that scripts or plugins that use the old Better Email plugin ID (for sending email or hooking into incoming email) should continue to work in Indigo 2021.1 with the Email+ plugin. That is, internally the Indigo Server will map the Better Email plugin ID to the new Email+ plugin ID automatically. Obviously updating the scripts or plugins to use the new ID is preferable but in theory nothing should break.
