Insteon KeypadLinc Replacement

I haven't seen any non-Insteon switch that has anything close to the 8 button SwitchLinc. There are several places where I use all 5 actions of a 6-button, ie the main on/off + 4 buttons. If it were really compelling I could probably be persuaded to install two switches, though obviously it would be a bit of a faff to cut holes in wall etc.

What *would* be nice is a multi-action switch that has actual on-off buttons instead of an on, an off and four toggle buttons. Nice would be switches that are purely controllers and completely separate dimmer/contactors.

Of course, appropriate quality listing - in the US & Canada I guess that means 'UL Listing' - is essential. My insurance (and probably yours) would not pay out if a non-listed device set fire to the house.

[MODERATOR NOTE]: split this off from the original post and created a new topic.

Closest I know of is the Lutron RRa2 keypads, like this. You can program them to do specific devices or scenes using the Lutron software, or you can use the plugin and do all sorts of multi-press triggers.

Can you spare a link to the Lutron RRA2 keypad? I can't find it on Amazon, and I'm curious about the pricing...

RRA2 gear is not advertised on-line, except maybe on eBay. It's distributor only. I get mine from http://hankselectric.supply, I can give you a contact there.

It's not cheap. Keypads are $200-$250 each. Dimmers about $100.

Ouch. That's expensive.

Commercial quality gear isn't cheap. It's in the same price range as Control4 or Crestron or any of the other commercial solutions. You get what you pay for.

I tested out the GE Quad Scene device as a possible replacement for my aging keypad link devices... Long story short, didn't work.
Product: https://www.amazon.com/GE-Enbrighten-34176-Portable-One-Touch/dp/B084N5H4SC

Forum discussion: https://forums.indigodomo.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=24592&p=197234&hilit=GE+Quad#p197234

For me, when the price goes past a certain point on a controller, I can't help but to compare it against the cost of a mounted android device running a dedicated control page with domopad.

In one situation, I have gone to a standard(ish) 3-way set-up, (my living room fan). A switch on either side of the room for the fan, one actually connected to the load, the other switch has the load capped and I use triggers to keep it in sync with the actual switch(both are z-wave switches). To change speeds, I have to use voice (Alexa via node-red) or through indigo-touch or another indigo control page. I would prefer to have all speed selections physically there, but I haven't found a z-wave alternative I like as much and I still have a few spare keypad links in a box to keep me going.

I could use the scene feature of my z-wave switches to change fan speed. (hold, tap, double-tap, triple-tap, etc.) but with a house full of kids and a spouse that doesn't fully appreciate my nerd-side, I've only done scene controlling on the switches in my office.

For fan control, you might consider the HomeSeer Fan Controller, which will work with their 3-way Companion Switch. I've not personally used this combination, but I do have one fan controller that seems pretty reliable.

I have a Buddy that put older C4 gear into his home, he bought everything used and has figured a way to activate the software so he can program it.

He uses these older keypads

He tells me there are Zigbee, I wonder if there is a way to adopt them into the Zigbee Plugin and utilize them. :?:

Seems Indigo could benefit from a plugin that "speaks" whatever protocols Control4 and Crestron use, so we could buy up the old pro hardware that is quite cheap on Ebay all the time.

This is new....
https://products.z-wavealliance.org/products/4131?selectedFrequencyId=2

I don't see anyone selling it yet.... I have the two button version and several other zooz products that work well. This (I'm guessing) could replace a 6-button keypadLinc. With multi-color LEDs, you could use one of the buttons to replace a 4 button fan setup where tapping could run an action that changes fan speed and LED color to correspond. Or go traditional with the big button doing the room light and the 4 little buttons doing fan off, low, med, high.

Totally agree , I just receives two units,
the main switch is recognize but
all 4 others buttons (scenes) are only
writing in log there button number, no status.
Impossible to trigger anything at this stage.

I am looking for quite a long time to find
a replacement of Insteon (6) or (8) buttons keypad for more reliability ,
this is a very interesting option in ZWAVE network,.
I really hope they will integrate this unit in there
library.

Looking forward for it.

Have you tried using the zwave scene controller plug-in? The plug-in might recognize the 4 buttons as a separate zWave controller.

Recently got an email from Smsrthome Pro they had some 8 button key pad supposedly found in there warehouse for $30 each. Picked up 3 and they look brand new.
Looks like you need to have a pro account to find them on there sight.

Not out yet.... but this RedSeries looks like a promising alternative to a KeypadLinc.

https://inovelli.com/red-series-smart-5-button-switch/

I have a Zooz 5-button on it's way to try out.

I curious to see if (with one of these multi-color LED type switches) you can use one button for full control of a fan. i.e., one tap rotates through fan speeds. Or use number of taps to go directly to a specific fan speed.

Just wanted to let folks know that Inovelli is facing some supply chain delays due to chip shortages. They've had to discontinue their addressable strip lights and some devices may take a while to be in stock. I don't know first hand what the effect will be on this upcoming device.
