Have you considered a configuration option to allow the user to specify where they would like the backup to be placed? For example, I would like to put the backup in one of Dropbox folders so it syncs to other computers of mine. Also, is there a Restore plugin to retrieve and replace a bad database?
Anyone that would like to test a newer version of the Backup Plugin, I have a v1.00 build that I would like you to try.
It includes, a customizable path, optional automated scheduling of backups.Drop me an email at Benjamin AT schollnick dot net.
When the plugin is started, it will perform a backup of the Indigo system, and then will "sleep" until the next scheduled backup time. So if the server is stopped and restarted, the plugin will then create another backup, and then sleep again. So it is quite possible that your scheduling may drift.
For example,
If I start the server on 1/1/2013, and I have a 14 day schedule. You would expect the next backup to be on 1/15/2013.
But if I stop Indigo's server, and restart it on 1/5/2013, the next backup would occur on the 1/5/2013, and the next scheduled will be on 1/19/2013.
The same issue will occur with a manual backup.
The scheduled backups are offset from the last created backup.
If there is a desire for these to be absolute backup date / times, I can look into enhancing the plugin for this, but I think the offsets are adequate at this time.
