Re: Pioneer Receiver discussion

This looks great -- I wish I had a supported receiver to use it.

And thanks for updating your plugins to support Indigo 6 so quickly.

Thanks Matt. Do you have a newer Pioneer? If so, I might be able to add support.

In any case, I'm glad to do what I can to support yours and Jay's efforts with Indigo. You guys really have done a great job with it!

Re: Pioneer Receiver discussion

My receiver is quite old (no IP) and some of the amp channels seem to be going out. Maybe I'll get a new one for Christmas. :-)

Re: Pioneer Receiver discussion

I know it's only designed to work with the VSX-1021-K and VSX-1122-K models.. but do you have any ideas as to what other receivers it may work with? I've been eying up the VSX-922 which is a good £200 cheaper..

Computer says no.

I see the VSX-922 in the same spreadsheet from Pioneer that I used to add VSX-1122-K compatibility, so as long as you can communicate with the VSX-922 from your Indigo server, the 922 should work okay. You may encounter an error or two due to feature differences. If you do get the 922 and encounter problems, though, if you're willing to send me error reports, I'd be happy to fix them, hopefully making it possible to add official VSX-922 support (I don't have any way of testing other models first hand, so it's kind of a trial-and-error deal with new models).

Re: Pioneer Receiver discussion

I have a pioneer VSX-52 and the things I have tried so far have worked properly, I have not tried a whole bunch of controls yet but I will play more this weekend. It sounds like some of the issues I was having might be solved with you new release such as disconnecting and needing to reload the plugin. I am running Indigo 6b now and shall provide further feedback. I'm new to the Mac and Indigo but not home automation and computers so I have a bit of a learning curve. Thank you for all your work! I'm really loving Indigo and your plugins.

Re: Pioneer Receiver discussion

Hi Keith.

I'm glad to hear things are working with Indigo, the plugin and the VSX-52 so far. Please feel free to let me know if you find any errors so I can try to fix them.

Thanks.. now just to see if i can justify the cost :)

I wonder.. since you have a spreadsheet of potentially compatible models could you post a list with the understanding that they may never work with them? Then as people test the plugin with them we can mark them off as 'compatible' or 'not compatible'?

Computer says no.

Re: Pioneer Receiver discussion

Good idea.

Here's a list of Pioneer receivers that are more likely to work with the Pioneer Receiver plugin based on their inclusion in the communications specifications spreadsheets I obtained from Pioneer. Note that the list includes models that may only have serial connections, but that the Pioneer Receiver plugin ONLY supports networked receivers. You'd need to confirm that the receiver you'd like to use with this plugin has a network.

2011 Models
  • SC-57
  • SC-55
  • VSX-53
  • VSX-52
  • VSX-1121
  • VSX-51
  • VSX-1021 (support confirmed)
  • VSX-50
2012 Models
  • SC-68
  • SC-67
  • SC-65
  • SC-1522
  • SC-63
  • SC-61
  • SC-1222
  • VSX-60
  • VSX-1122 (support confirmed)
  • SC-LX86
  • SC-LX76
  • SC-1527
  • SC-LX56
  • SC-1227
  • SC-2022
  • VSX-1127
  • VSX-1027
  • VSX-922 (support confirmed)

I can only confirm support (based on actual testing against a unit) for the ones indicated with "(support confirmed)" above. The others are listed in the same spreadsheets though and will likely be similarly functional with the plugin.

Re: Pioneer Receiver discussion

Hello Nathan,

Some 2010 models are also compatible. I have a VSX-920 and it can be controlled by telnet. I started to work on the adaptation of your plugin to work with VSX-920.
I have to find time to finish this ...

That's good to hear. What adaptations are needed for it to work with the 920? Have you tried selecting the VSX-1021-K as the model when creating a new Pioneer Receiver device for your VSX-920? I'd be interested in hearing your results.

Re: Pioneer Receiver discussion

In fact there are some differences between 2011 and on models and 2010 models.
The main is the telnet port : for 2010 models (at least mine ...), it's 8102 and not the default telnet port. Some functionalities (actions or request status) are not present in 2010 models and it results a lot of error in log. And, as IP communications are closed when the receiver is off, your process trying to re-connect make a lot of error.

I will have a look this week, and try to send you a customized plugin by the end of he week-end, OK ?

Re: Pioneer Receiver discussion

Sounds good! Interesting. Port 8102 is also used on the 2011 models for iOS device control (iControl2 app). I'll check out the changes you make and see what I can do to integrate them into the current Pioneer Plugin version. Thanks for your help.

Re: Pioneer Receiver discussion

You are right, port 8102 is used by the iOS device control app (iControl for 2010 devices). But on these models, it's the only open port (with 80). Port 23 is closed ...
