Can't pair HUE hub with plugin...

Thank you for the plugin.
It looks like it will be fantastic once I can pair my hub.

I have added the plugin, re-loaded, and filled in the configuration with the correct IP, etc.
The problem is when I press start it only gives me about a 1/4 second to press the button on my HUE hub.
Am I pairing this incorrectly?

Thank you, Anthony.

Re: Can't pair HUE hub with plugin...

Hi Anthony.

It sounds like you might have had a failed pairing attempt in the past that's causing the plugin to think it's already paired. The plugin won't attempt to re-pair itself with the hub if it thinks it's paired already. The only way to reset this in the plugin is to disable the plugin, delete the plugin preferences, then re-enable the plugin and try pairing again. The plugin preferences file is located at

/Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 6/Preferences/Plugins/com.nathansheldon.indigoplugin.huelights.indiPref

Try these steps:

  1. Disable the Hue Lights plugin from the Plugins -> Hue Lights -> Disable menu option in Indigo.
  2. Move the file listed above to the Trash and empty the trash.
  3. Enable the Hue Lights plugin again from the Plugins -> Hue Lights -> Enable menu option in Indigo.

After that, try pairing the plugin to the hub again. Let me know how that works.

Re: Can't pair HUE hub with plugin...

...Thanks for the troubleshooting.
I was able to pair the hub, and the MAC shows correctly now in the plugin.

...however none of my HUE devices show up?

I have the starter kit with the 3 color bulbs.
I have tried reloading and also get HUE devices.
I also tried creating a device but the HUE dropdown did not show any of the bulbs?

Thank you for your continued support.

Re: Can't pair HUE hub with plugin...

Hi again.

Glad that worked.

Have you paired each of the 3 bulbs with the Hue hub?
Do they all show up in the Hue app on your iOS device/s?

If you answered "yes" to both of those questions, I'll need to see debug log output from your setup. To enable debug logging for the Hue Lights plugin, go to the Plugins -> Hue Lights -> Configure menu option in Indigo. Put a check in the box next to "Enable debugging" and click the Save button. Reload the plugin (Plugins -> Hue Lights -> Reload). Then disable debugging and copy and paste the log output you see in the Indigo log into your reply.

Re: Can't pair HUE hub with plugin...

I will post if you want but I'm pretty sure this will be all you need.

The log says not paired on one line and the next it says unauthorized user (HUE).

...strange as it added the MAC address after I thought I paired it.

Yes. That's odd. You'll need to delete the preferences again. Be sure that when you're pairing the plugin again that you follow the pairing steps carefully., especially the last step of clicking the Start/Finish button then the Save button in the plugin configuration window. If pairing still doesn't work, delete the prefs again and I'll need to see the debug logs of the pairing process.

Still no go...it still looks like an authorization issue?

Re: Can't pair HUE hub with plugin...

Hi again. Yes it is an authentication issue.

Please follow these steps to try to resolve the issue.

  1. Open the Hue Lights plugin configuration window (Plugins -> Hue Lights -> Configure).
  2. Enable debugging and click the Save button.
  3. Open the Hue Lights plugin configuration window again.
  4. Click the Start/Finish button in the configuration window (do not click Save or Cancel).
  5. Press the center button on the Hue hub.
  6. Click the Start/Finish button in the configuration window again then click Save.
  7. Open the Hue Lights plugin configuration window again, disable debugging and click the Save button again.
  8. Copy the entire Indigo log contents from the point where you opened the configuration window the first time to the point where you clicked the Save button in the above step.

Also, are you able to control your lights through the Hue app on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch (or Android device)?

Re: Can't pair HUE hub with plugin...

I will post the updated log when I get home from work tonight.

Yes my HUE devices all work fine from my phones, tablets, and computers.
My Indigo 6 installation is on a Mac Mini with 16GB RAM and is a wired network connection.

Re: Can't pair HUE hub with plugin...

I finally got the hub to authenticate with your plugin and load my 3 bulbs!

In the end I had to pull up the log window as I repeatedly press my hub 'button' and the 'start / finish' button in the plugin.
After 3 or 4 rapid tries it added the hub?

Not sure why it was being so finicky...

Thank you for your troubleshooting.

Re: Can't pair HUE hub with plugin...

I'm glad you were able to get it working. I'm not sure why it was being so finnicky either. Perhaps something in the latest Hue hub firmware makes it require a faster pairing process. In any case, glad it's working now.
