Sending email without authentication

I can not seem to send an email - in the setup area for email there is not place to input sending authentication info. True?

if so, who's national mail service can I use? Gmail seems to also require authentication.

The preferences dialog (Indigo 6->Preferences...) has a tab where you input your authentication information.
