Speech not working

Hi,

Using the 'speak' option in Indigo 6. When I 'test' the action in the open dialog it works fine. When I save the action and then 'execute' it, there is no sound!

Heading towards Airfoil, but until I can solve this issue, there seems little point!

Any ideas?

J.

Are you using Airfoil now?

Re: Speech not working

I've installed Airfoil. It works okay with with iTunes and System Sounds. It also works when the source is set to the Indigo client and the 'test' mode is used for speech. However, there is no output when Airfoil is connected to the IndigoServer.app.

I'm not convinced this is an Airfoil issue, as I can't get any sound to work even when simply running a basic speech test on IndigoServer.

Re: Speech not working

To rule out Airfoil, just quit it and run an action that has speak text in it and see if you hear it.

Re: Speech not working

I've completely removed Airfoil. Speech works from the Indigo client when 'test' is used in an open action dialog. However, when saved and ran (by executing the action)' there is no sound.

Perplexed!

Re: Speech not working

Hmmm. There was an issue with some corrupt voices sometime back - quit the server, select a new voice, then restart the server.

Re: Speech not working

So, stopped the server, downloaded 'Emily' and changed from Serena to the new downloaded voice. Restarted the Indigo server, tried again - still doesn't work! Confused!

Re: Speech not working

Any errors in the event log? Specifically when the server starts up or an action that has speak text assigned?

Also, open up the Console app and search for IndigoServer and see if there are any clues there.

Re: Speech not working

I was just able to reproduce this problem, although I don't have concrete steps yet. We'll continue to look into it.

Re: Speech not working

I found the problem. It appears to be a new-ish bug in OS X's speech manager. I've found a workaround which will be in the next release of Indigo.

Re: Speech not working

Good news - thanks guys! Any clues to how I can implement a similar workaround until the next point release?

Re: Speech not working

Try Indigo 6.0.3 which we just release. I believe we have worked around the speech problem you were encountering.
