Can I Setup 2 ecobee Thermostats in Same House?

I have an HVAC system designed in the 70's. It has two separate furnaces/air conditioning units requiring two separate thermostats: 1 for the living/kitchen area and 1 for the bedrooms. I have an ecobee 3 lite thermostat installed in each area. I have the main living area ecobee setup in indigo per your instructions under my ecobee account number.

Do I need a second ecobee account to ensure the bedroom thermostat is controlled in indigo, or can I configure the second ecobee under the same account? If so, how so I do that? Appreciate the help!

One account, multiple thermostats. I had four on mine at one time.

Creat an Account Device, go through the authentication steps. Then just create multiple thermostat devices.

Thanks for the quick reply.. I thought that was the case. But when I tried that originally only I got my second two remote sensors to come up, The second thermostat didn't create a device. Must've been user error. Will try again.

Re: Can I Setup 2 ecobee Thermostats in Same House?

Re-tried setting up second ecobee thermostat. Plugin did create a new thermostat device under the single ecobee account. However, it did not create an occupancy sensor associated with the thermostat itself. I cannot find a way to configure the second thermostat to show its internal occupancy sensor status. Did I miss something? Again, appreciate the help!

If it didn't create the internal occupancy sensor, then it's not identifying the Ecobee model correctly. Use the plugin menu command to "Write Thermostat Data to Log" and post that here.

I figured it out! My bad! The second ecobee thermostat is an ecobee 3 lite. The "lite" version does not have and internal occupancy sensor. Your plugin is working fine. I didn't read the fine print!

I was wondering about that. I have one of those as well. The data dump would have been conclusive.

Re: Can I Setup 2 ecobee Thermostats in Same House?

I blindly purchased an ecobee 3 lite not knowing the occupancy sensor was not installed. I may have to return it and get one with an internal occupancy sensor due to the configuration of the bedroom wing of my house. The thermostat sits in a hallway before entering the bedrooms. It would be nice for the thermostat to recognize movement at that point rather than wait until the remote sensors "see" a person. I'll test it for awhile before changing my mind.

Thanks for the plugin and your rapid advice!

Re: Can I Setup 2 ecobee Thermostats in Same House?

I've added a second Ecobee thermostat and used the same account to create the second thermostat in Indigo. The Indigo/Ecobee integration works as expected. However, the following error message which appears every 3 minutes (the update frequency), but only for the second thermostat.:
Code: Select all
Error                           device "2 uHall Thermostat" state key latestEventType not defined (ignoring update request)
Error                           device "2 uHall Thermostat" state key climate not defined (ignoring update request)
Error                           device "2 uHall Thermostat" state key hvacMode not defined (ignoring update request)
Error                           device "2 uHall Thermostat" state key fanMinOnTime not defined (ignoring update request)
Error                           device "2 uHall Thermostat" state key equipmentStatus not defined (ignoring update request)
Error                           device "2 uHall Thermostat" state key device_type not defined (ignoring update request)

The error messages persist even with configuring the plug-in to "Critical Errors Only".
Do these message indicate a problem that needs to be fixed? If not, how can I eliminate them?

What model Ecobee is it?

Use the plugin menu command to "Write Thermostat Data to Log" and post that here.

Also, right-click on that device in the Indigo client UI and select "print device details" (or whatever that command is), and post it also.

The HVAC people bought it - I assumed it was new, but in about > Thermostat Information > Thermostat model, there is no information.

Re: Can I Setup 2 ecobee Thermostats in Same House?

That data dump is showing THREE thermostats. Two of them are the vulcanSmart models (ecobee Smart w/ Voice Control), and one is an artemisSmart, which is not documented in the API docs, so it must be really new. I need the marketing name for that model so I can look up the capabilities.

Re: Can I Setup 2 ecobee Thermostats in Same House?

My first thermostat is duplicated. I’ve lived with that because I can’t delete it without nuking al the connected objects.
I’m out of town tonight, but the installers may have left the device box. Hopefully home tomorrow.

Re: Can I Setup 2 ecobee Thermostats in Same House?

The model per the thermostat settings is "Smart Thermostat Enhanced". The barcode label on the box is "EB-STATE6L-01".
Thanks for following up on this.
