Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

I do this for guest rooms on my Heatmiser stats by having the usual program set then turning them to frost protect mode, basically off but maintains minimum temp.
When guests arrive the stat is turned back to program mode and status that way for as many days as they are there then when they leave (phones drop off WiFi/piBeacon) it goes back to frost protect mode.

I had been thinking a similar mode for the spirits plugin would be great

However my priority is for all schedules to activate when they should do, rather than some being missed.

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Finally got round to plotting 2 months worth of battery life on the Spirits. Some have gone up to 3 weeks without showing a battery change, others seem to more reliably report every few days. Some have used only 30% over 2 months, others have gone through 70%+ in only 6 weeks.
Still too early to say on the rechargeable battery life. Good news is that they are performing as they should.

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

OK

I have a whole pile of eneloop batteries that should do well here as the leak power very slowly indeed, so should be good for the radiators.

What make of rechargeable batteries are you using and what is their mAh rating? :)

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Just experienced a weird one..

Two radiators in lounge

Front and Back

Both use the same wave temp sensor.

The Remote Sensor worked fine.

Front radiator shut off when room hit 20C

The back radiator continued to show remote Temp as 19ish C so kept radiator on full 100%

As the room hit 23C it was apparent the controller was not working.

The remote temp sensor working fine.

Front TRV reading the Remote Temp and just fine.

The Back TRV just ignoring the remote temp.

Restarting the TRV controller immediately read the correct remote temp.

Logs attached..

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Actually not that weird. Jon and I have been seeing same occasionally.
I've seen it miss off signals as you have but also on. I've set up some triggers that if temp exceeds setpoint +1 it triggers an action that sets boost for 5 mins at the setpoint.
That turns off the heat and gets it working again, but only for a couple of rooms and their schedules but with 7 TRVs and 4 schedules per room that's a lot of triggers to set up to check that the devices are working properly.

It would be great if the plugin could do the same.

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Interesting

Just gone to bed the radiator is very very hot and yet the TRV Controller has been reporting the valve as 0% since 8am yesterday.

The bedroom is 20.8 with a target temp of 18C with the valve at 0%

These Spirits are proving to be flakey!

Very very frustrating.

This may be a bug.

Thanks for the log. :)

I will have to double check but it is possible that if you have a remote stat assigned to two TRVs (which is perfectly reasonable) then when a remote stat temperature change change comes in, only one TRV gets updated. Restarting the plugin will refresh the initial remote values on both TRVs which is what you saw.

It will be a day or two before I can check this out. :)

I've had the same thing on the past because the spirit had missed a command to turn off after the 100% command had been sent so it stayed on full during a scheduled on period rather than adjusting to lower %

However I think I got what you had today. Interestingly I was planning to report that I've had to missed schedules since moving to my new Mac.

However then this happened. After the evening schedule finished, my landing rad went on full and got the temp t o 26.5 when I luckily walked passed. The trv itself showed 8C on its screen.

Adjusting SP in indigo or on trv doesn't fix anything. Had to press and hold minus on trv to force it off which then got the valve closed

Image

The schedule went off at 9 but the temp didn't start increasing until 7 mins later. Could it have been a delay related to any schedule off commands or it really was something random?

Thanks

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Just a quick update on the next TRV Controller plugin update which is work in progress. :)

I have this afternoon added in a user selectable option to force ON/Off on a Spirit TRV - so when the minimum setpoint is set, the Spirit will be turned off (HVAC Mode Off) and when a normal Heat Setpoint is set the Sprit will be turned on (HVAC mode Heat). I am hoping this might resolve the Spirit's tendency to sometimes remain on even though reporting it isn't. I will run this for the next few days to make sure it doesn't go pear-shaped and then upload to Github as a pre-release if any one wants to give it a go.

I have examined the code around defining multiple TRV Controller devices to use the same remote thermostat. Whilst there is nothing in the plugin to stop you doing this, in practice it doesn't work as when a remote thermostat temperature is updated only one of the associated TRV Controllers will be updated. So whilst on a plugin start all the associated TRV Controllers will be updated with the current remote thermostat temperature, from then on only one is updated.

Unfortunately, due to the way I have designed the logic, it's not a simple fix to resolve this - it's doable but will take a little bit of thinking about how best to approach it! :|

Apologies for the delay in replying.

I can't explain it - the graph is showing the temperature rising but the valve is closed. :?

If it happens again, I would be interested in seeing the log around the time it is happening to see if that shows anything. :)

Just happened again. Valve shows zero in indigo but 100 on actual trv. Had to set temp indigo to 28 to get indigo to send new set point then when took it back down to 20 the valve closed
Will get logs over to you

Re: TRV Controller Discussion Thread

Annoyingly my Influxdb pluging wasnt recording data, and I have turned off sqllogger until I migrate my postgres db to the new mac, so I dont know when it happened. However the last received valve % was at 10:00:59, just before I think the plugin restarted. Then just lots of requests but nothing returned.

It's a bug. I will correct it for the next version. :)
