Quick Start Instructions for Installing the RFXrec433 with Indigo

Put the Pieces Together
    1. Connect the supplied antenna to the antenna connector at the top of the RFXrec433.
    2. The RFXrec433 is USB powered. Connect the supplied USB cable with the small B-type connector to the USB port located in the front panel of the device.
    3. Plug the other end of the USB Cable into (preferably) a port on your Mac. You can try a hub, but it may not respond as well there.

Download the (virtual) Serial Driver - - - if necessary
    4. The RFXrec433 uses the FTDI VCP driver, which is the same driver used by some Indigo supported PowerLincs (like the PLM 2413U, 2412U & 2448A7) and other USB equipment. Therefore, you might already have the driver installed. The driver file, if installed, can be found here: /System/Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext. If not installed, continue to the next step . . .
    5. Go to the site http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm to download the dmg that has the Mac OS X driver.
    6. Choose the appropriate version for your Mac OS X.
    Image

Install the Serial Driver - - - if necessary
    7. Expand (by double clicking) the downloaded dmg.
    8. Double click on the FTDIUSBSerialDriver icon to install it.
    9. Restart your Mac to finish the driver installation.

Download the RFXCCOM Plugin
    10. Go to this page - - - https://github.com/IndigoDomotics/rfxcom-plugin/releases - - - and obtain the 3rd Party RFXCOM Plugin
    11. Double click on the downloaded RFXCOM.indigoPlugin.zip file to get the expanded RFXCPM.indigoPlugin
    12. Double click on the RFXCPM.indigoPlugin file and hit the Install and Enable button.
    Image
    13. Have your Indigo Event Log open to verify installation success.
    14. Next to the USB connector on the front panel there are two indicating LED's. The green LED flashes upon the reception of data. The red LED lights continuously when the RFXrec433 is in boot load mode.
    15. The RFXrec433 receiver communicates over a single USB port with the RFXCom 3rd Party Plugin. At USB connection time the RFXrec433 enters the boot loader for 2 seconds and after this delay the receive firmware is started. The RFXrec433 is now ready for use.
    16. Select the FTDI Serial Port from the list presented in the "Configure RFXCOM" screen. It will probably be named something like or similar to this: usbserial-A8008ieY.
    17. For optimal reliability enable only the receiver protocols for the sensors/modules you are using. For example, if you have only Oregon Scientific sensors, then uncheck all receiver protocols but Oregon Scientific.

After installation of the Plugin, it needs to be configured:

Re: The RFXCOM Plugin - Quickstart (text under development)

Can you please tell me if the RFXCOM Plugin will support the Oregon Scientific PROAW132? If it doesn't, will support be added for this in the future? I see that it supports the AW129 and the AW131 already. Thank you!

Re: The RFXCOM Plugin - Quickstart (text under development)

Hello... I'm new to this, but, in theory, could this plugin be made to work with 900MhZ USB transceivers? The reason I ask is that the newish 2Gig Alarm control panel works on a 900Mhz frequency (I believe) and it would be amazing to be able to intercept sensor status to integrate it into my indigo network. Anyone know anything about this?

Re: The RFXCOM Plugin - Quickstart (text under development)

This plug-in supports the RFXCOM 433.92MHz, 310MHz and 315MHz transceivers: RFXtrx433, RFXrec433 and RFXtrx315.
RFXCOM will develop an 868MHz transceiver in the future. See the list os supported protocols on the RFXCOM web site.
Other frequencies and protocols are not supported.

Greetings! Has anyone tried listening with this device for http://www.dakotaalert.com/index.php (Dakota Alert) products? They all claim to transmit on 433.92, use and 8 bit unique device ID (256 possible ID's)..

I'm not clear on the protocols riding on that 433.92MHz frequency..

I poked at the http://www.rfxcom.com/store/Receivers/12113 web site and they claim "receives and decodes 433.92 MHz sensor signals of all major brands", but that begs the question, is "Dokata Alert" a major brand? ;-)

Anyway, curious if anyone has attempted this? Probably a BETTER question to ask if the RFXCOM indigo plugin will accept data packets from this:
http://www.dakotaalert.com/catb2b1/product_info.php?cPath=47&products_id=123

Thanks so much for any advice!

Sincerely,

-ET-

Re: The RFXCOM Plugin - Quickstart (text under development)

Does anyone know of a transceiver that can read 345MHz signals? My alarm panel (2Gig) operates at that frequency for the sensors. Would love to be able to capture sensor status on the 30+ hardwire sensors I have around the house. Sensors are hardwired to a hardwire to RF translator (RE208) which converts the hard wire sensor to a 345MHz signal for the 2Gig panel to read.

ON A RELATED NOTE: anyone had any luck interfacing with the Alarm.com system (the same way Nest plugin does)?

Re: The RFXCOM Plugin - Quickstart (text under development)

The RFXtrx433 and RFXrec433 operates at 433.92MHz.
The RFXtrx315 can operte on 315MHz or 310MHz.

The decoding of the protocols is coded in the RFXtrx. For the list of supported protocols see the RFXtrx User Guide chapter 2.

is there a place where I can see the signal strength received by the rfxcom?

thanks

Re: The RFXCOM Plugin - Quickstart (text under development)

Will this support the RFXLAN Transceiver?

Thanks,

No, the RFXtrx communications protocol is very different from the RFXLAN communications protocol.
I don't know if Indigo has xPL support? If xPL is supported you can flash the RFXLAN with xPL firmware.

Re: The RFXCOM Plugin - Quickstart (text under development)

Hi All,

I added the RFXCOM plugin and setup the transceiver.
But how can I add a device and it's knowing which channel he needs to send?

I've got some like these:
http://www.elro.eu/uploads/products/manual/AB440RA_Manual.pdf

So, I click on new device,, Type: RFXCOM, Model: ELRO Appliance.
Then it's asking me for the Module Address? Where can I find this?

Or do I need to use this another way?
Thanks!

Regards!

Re: The RFXCOM Plugin - Quickstart (text under development)

The way it works for OSI weather sensors which is what I use the device for is that once you have enabled the protocol in the plugin Configure option for any device that transmits to the RFX, you will start seeing messages in the log stating something like "Unknown device Type 80 (Temperature sensor) found on channel 285,". The channel is the address. Once you set that, all the states should appear as soon as it transmits the next time.
