Login Failed General Error. fmf{} SOLVED

MacOs 10.14.6 (Mohave)
Indigo 2021.1
FindFriendsMini 1.0.4
iCloud account with NO 2FA

Yesterday evening spontaneously out of nothing we got this error:
2021-09-20 21:03:25.136 FindFriendsMini Error within get Data. ?Network connection or issue: Error Given: 'fmf'

Changed nothing to the iCloud account. iCloud password is ok and works also correct with icloud.com.
When we entered the password again in the FindFriendsMini config window we got an error message:

“Login validation failed - check username & password or internet connection".

Anyone else with these problems?

Thanks for the support.

Re: Login Failed General Error. fmf{}

Hi

Suspect that it is a temp downtime of the find my friends apple service. Given that it seems to login - to iCloud, just this service request fails.

Would restart the plugin and wait it out:

https://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/

Seems to suggest everything is up now…

Failing that I have been making a whole lot of changes to the plugin supporting 2-factor-authentication and accounts with this already setup. Currently working fine. Also backwards compatible with accounts without 2FA and I have been running it on main Indigo for months without problem.

2FA accounts still sends occasional emails… and have been testing frequency, on development machine. After a quick startup flurry of emails, with 2FA account seems to email about once a month. Still annoying unfortunately… and not sure whether this can be improved further.

This new, still compatible with non-2FA accounts is here to try if ongoing issues:

https://github.com/Ghawken/IndigoPlugin ... i/tree/2FA

Let me know how you go

Glenn

Re: Login Failed General Error. fmf{}

Hi Glenn,

Thank you so much for your time and extended answer.
The strange thing is that I also still get the annoying Apple login emails when the plugin tried to login to iCloud.
(your Apple ID is used etc.)
But the error keeps going on.

Big compliments for your 2FA work! We are deep impressed.
So, I used another Apple ID WITH 2FA with the Plugin and I thought it was working well because no login errors anymore but then I saw this error:

==================================================================================================================================
FindFriendsMini Error within get Data. ?Network connection or issue: Error Given: tuple index out of range
FindFriendsMini ==================================================================================================================================
FindFriendsMini Error Caught Exception
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "plugin.py", line 744, in refreshData
self.logger.info(u"{0:<30} {1}".format("Plugin Config is not complete."))
IndexError: tuple index out of range

So, also with this 2FA iCloud account it won't work (anymore).
See also this info:

FindFriendsMini ==================================================================================================================================
FindFriendsMini Attempting Login to Apple Account:john@icloud.com
FindFriendsMini Account username and password has been verifed by Apple
FindFriendsMini Two Factor Authenication (2FA) is NOT enabled on this account
FindFriendsMini OR this Computer/Device is a Trusted Session. Hence Code not needed
FindFriendsMini This is the ideal setup for iFindFriends
FindFriendsMini Nothing further is required and the account should be functioning
FindFriendsMini Please select options and press Save.

Do you have another solution?

Thanks for your time and support.

Re: Login Failed General Error. fmf{}

Hi

Few questions:

1. what version Mac OSX? Seem to recall you were on very old version. May be SSL issue/change

2FA version - the error is a log issue I would guess. But main reason for error hidden by this. (Partially from conversion of some of 2FA back to python 2.6 and fact haven’t seen error before)

Full debug log may help - but regardless will have a look at it when can hopefully next day or so

Login Failed General Error. fmf{}

Thanks

Will fix that logging error — pretty sure that happens when you Plugin Config has not been completed. This newer version has some specific 2FA checkbox’s/fields.

Have uploaded version 1.2.4 which fixes that silly logging error. Same link as above on GitHub.

But - Go to the plugin Config and make sure everything is filled in there.

For the 2FA accounts need to enter account details, and checkbox 2FA account. Then need to press the login button from within the config. This will generate a 2FA code request which should be sent to one that accounts ‘trust devices’, there is then a box to enter code and continue.

Thats the bit you haven’t done for the 2FA account.

Thanks

Glenn

Re: Login Failed General Error. fmf{}

Thanks for the quick feedback and update Glenn.

- The Green GitHub download buttons gave an old version. Can you give us the right download link please?

- We have ~ ten times filled in all the config info. (There is not that much to fill). Deleted FMFPlugin prefs. Clean install but no FMF iCloud info anymore. Sorry.
We saw the first time the 2FA Apple window on the same Mac mini and have pressed that code but after that action it won't work.
Can we delete that Apple trusted device info somewhere?

Thanks for your support and time.

John

Login Failed General Error. fmf{}

Hi

Use the link from the post 2-3 above

https://github.com/Ghawken/IndigoPlugin-iFindFriendMini/tree/2FA

(Need to select the 2FA branch - but above ones should automatically select it)

Few Questions

1. I presume this is again the 2FA enabled account that you are trying?

2. Have you tried with the none 2FA account with this newer version?

Try logging into

https://www.icloud.com/fmf

& see what happens. I get an FindmyFriends error message from the apple server (with my details). Seems a bit strange.

Basically you can’t log into the findmyfriends service -but everything else is working.

Interestingly now I’m getting the same error message from the Plugin. Likely some change within apple iCloud. Not sure whether will recover and/or some major changes are needed. Might need to wait it out and I’ll see what happens…

Re: Login Failed General Error. fmf{}

Thanks for the hints.

With this link;
https://github.com/Ghawken/IndigoPlugin ... i/tree/2FA
The green "code" download button gives a very old FMFM plugin file.

1. I presume this is again the 2FA enabled account that you are trying?
Yes sir.
2. Have you tried with the none 2FA account with this newer version?
Not yet because we can' find the new version. Sorry.

Tried:
https://www.icloud.com/fmf
And indeed, there are error messages; below.
As said before; we changed nothing at all into the plugin or our iCloud account. It was working perfectly for years! This problem arose spontaneously, and I think it's from the Apple side....

Login Failed General Error. fmf{}

I agree - something changed at Apple server side.

Here’s hoping they haven’t deleted support for FindmyFriends completely….

This link and ones above; select the 2FA Branch of the plugin - which is version 1.2.4

We have selected the
"2FA Branch of the plugin - which is version 1.2.4"
But the downloaded ZIP file is the very old version.

Just press the Green Code button above - that downloads the current code. The other button likely downloads the latest formal release.

Re: Login Failed General Error. fmf{}

Looks like apple has removed the FindFriends service from OS15. Once updated good FindmyFriends.

No immediate fix apparent it would seem.

Will see what options there are.

Thanks for your answers Glenn.
the Green "Code" button on GitHub gives only the pop-up menu, as seen in the screen dump.

But beside this, it's over and out now? Sorry to hear.
We were so happy with your perfect FMF plugin!

I don't think it's possible to read the local FMF data from the local Find My app at the Mac?

Hi

Yes the green Code button downloads the latest version, with the Download zip button. You need to use the link to make sure you have selected branch 2FA - which is the current one.

Not quite over and out.
With 2FA working (mainly) does allow options of tracking own devices, and family members. (Which is probably the majority of usage)

Did like the openness of a separate Indigo account tracking family/friends which then could be disabled by them - rather than using a main iCloud account and just ‘borrowing’ the tracking info.

Still will wait and see what solutions there might be…. Can’t see anyone actively working on fixing but will have a look and see what is possible, particularly within this other data.
