Log to variables

Apologies if this has already been covered.. I've been trying to catch up on the last 18 months of activity that I've mostly missed and I don't think I've seen this anywhere (or anywhere when I searched for it.) Before I go and start ripping out what's left of my hair converting an AppleScript to Python for entering log details into variables has anyone already got a pre-writen one ready to rock and roll? Thanks!
