Hikvision vs SecuritySpy motion detection

This is not about this plugin, but I thought I'd post it here to see if someone has played around with this.

I am currently a happy user of SecuritySpy, but there are specific situations where SecuritySpy's motion detection (pixel based) is not adequate and where it reports false positives.
I am wondering if anybody has tested the internal Hikvision motion detection methods and compared it to what SecuritySpy offers.

There is one situation where I receive a lot of false positives from SecuritySpy.
I have a Hikvision pinhole camera at my front door. It is mounted inside, but looking out a window above the door and detects when someone is at the door.
This sends a pushover message to my iPhone, and when dark, turns on the light outside at the front door.
However, this is close the street (approx 4m), and for some reason this is a place where a lot of cars turn around to go back where they came from. I guess they are looking for a place to park.
The camera picks up the car headlights lighting on the pavement, and SecuritySpy identifies this as movement.

Would there be any advantage to use the Hikvision internal motion detection ? I'm thinking line crossing might be helpfull, but in the end, are the Hikvision methods also based on pixel motion ?

My understanding of "motion detection" is that it really doesn't detect when something moves, but rather when a significant number of pixels change, which is why your headlights are considered "motion".

So with that in mind, I'm not sure switching motion detection methods will make much difference.

You can try it if yourself to see which of the two motion detection algorithim is better.
Your camera must have http notification capability. I know the following camera brands have this capability- Mobotix, Axis, Phylink, Sumpple

Steps:
1) Set motion sensitivity to 0 or minimum level in Security Spy
2) Trigger an Http notfication from the camera to Security Spy using the following command. Replace IP & cameraNum.
Code: Select all
 http://Security Spy IP:8000/++triggermd?cameraNum=2

Security Spy motion detection will effectively be turned off and the camera will control the recording trigger.

That's actually what I was saying : motion detection in SecuritySpy is pixel based. But maybe I was not very clear with my question.
From what I've read on the internet, Hikvision's smart detection methods (line crossing & intrusion..) seem to do something else. Some Hikvision cameras also have face detection in the smart category, so it's definatly not pixel based.
From what I can find, "basic event" triggers are based on pixel motion but "smart event" triggers have some sort of image analysis and object recognition. Maybe something similar to what sighthound does.

Hence my question if somebody had already compared the two methods ?

FWIW, I am testing the two methods at the moment, and so far I have not had any false positive alerts from the smart events, but I need to test this a little longer to be sure.

@lalisingh
I'm not sure I follow. What would this test actually prove ?
If motion is triggered manually, either in SecuritySpy or in the camera, what would that achieve ?
I'm also not certain if Hikvision has this option, they do have alarm inputs to trigger events inside the camera, but I think they are hardware inputs.

I've not used security spy, but have a Hikvision DVR and a large number of cameras. I did use line crossing for a while on the front door ... to anticipate a door bell ring. I had a similar issue of car headlights setting off the line crossing alarm so I would guess it works in the same way as motion detection. I did work out where headlights didnt shine and added my line crossing in that area.
