Lutron Radio Ra3 Repeater plug-in and Radio Ra2 Keypads

I need a few RR2 - 7 button keypads for my vacation home. I have searched for information regarding the plug-in for the RR3 Repeater, and haven't seen anything indicating that the plug-in is imminent. Do you (Joe) have any idea when it might be available? - and if so, whether it will be compatible with the RR2 keypads?
I hope the construction of your new home is proceeding nicely.

Re: Lutron Radio Ra3 Repeater plug-in and Radio Ra2 Keypads

Pre-release versions of the LEAP (RRa3) plugin are available, as posted in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=217&t=26673

I won't be doing a "final" release of the plugin until I can actually test with my own RRa3 hardware, which probably won't be for a year. We're still in the pre-permit phase of the build.

My understanding is that RRa2 keypads do work with RRa3, and therefor WILL work with the new plugin. But I do not know at this time if controlling the button LEDs will be possible. Pico type keypads are not represented as devices - they only generate events (for triggers). I'm not sure yet if the real keypads do more.

Thanks. I’m going to buy an eBay RR2 repeater.
Good luck with your permit.

Re: Lutron Radio Ra3 Repeater plug-in and Radio Ra2 Keypads

I tried to buy 2 RRa2 Repeaters on eBay, and both were scams (and I did get refunds).
Based on a (hopeful) reading of the Leap version, I installed a RRa3 controller to manage my keypads.
I also installed the Lutron Leap plug-in, and am unable to get it to load.
Did I jump the gun with my new RRa3 controller, or hopefully, I'm doing something wrong?

No, I didn't put in the right error checking. Do this in a terminal window:

Code: Select all
pip3 install zeroconf

Re: Lutron Radio Ra3 Repeater plug-in and Radio Ra2 Keypads

Well, that was magic! At least it turned the plug-in red light into green. Good start.
However, the plug-in is not seeing my bridged connection/device: for both "create devices from bridge":, and "manage linked devices". - There is nothing in the 'bridge/hub' field. 'Lutron Leap' is enabled int the Manage Interfaces > Plug-Ins. I am running Lutron in Parallels > Windows 11 where in Parallels, the bridge selected is 'ethernet'.
Possible related issue: I just updated Indigo and 2 plug-ins (Shelly NGMQTT and Ecobee 2). My event log (attached) is signaling an issue, adding another line about every second. I'm hoping maybe it might look familiar to you.

I have no idea what you're talking about. The LEAP plugin works with specific Lutron hubs. There is nothing you can be running in Windows that will work with this plugin.

I'm sorry for my confusion.
I was able to follow the steps from the link you included. I'm stopped at a device not on the list of supported devices - a RRa2 Keypad. That's unfortunate. Is there any hope that it might be supported in the future.
Thanks, as always, for your help.

The LEAP plugin currently does not have any keypad devices. You can however, create triggers to do things based on button presses. But there's no support for the keypad LEDs.

Re: Lutron Radio Ra3 Repeater plug-in and Radio Ra2 Keypads

Buttons without LEDs would be useful, but I don't seem to be able to create keypad button devices with the Lutron Leap plug-in. - and don't I need button devices to create triggers?

No, you don't need button devices. When you create a trigger for a button event, you will get a popup listing all the buttons.

Re: Lutron Radio Ra3 Repeater plug-in and Radio Ra2 Keypads

When running the Lutron Leap plug-in, there are no devices created, and no devices in the trigger popup.
When creating a trigger, there are no buttons to select. - see attachment.
I'm confused by your reply that no devices are created. The event log shows:
Oct 10, 2023 at 12:13:03
Lutron Leap Creating Devices, Grouping = Area

What am I missing?

Re: Lutron Radio Ra3 Repeater plug-in and Radio Ra2 Keypads

Please confirm that you have activated the Keypad with the RRa3 Repeater using the Designer software (on Windows). And that you see the Keypad in the Lutron mobile app and it works as expected there.

If both of those are true, then use the "Write Bridge Data to Log" menu command, and post the results. Also enable debug logging, and restart the plugin. Post the log.

You didn't pair the hub to the plugin, per the instructions:
