Lutron keypads

I have been running Indigo with Insteon switches for several years, and just recently started fooling around with some Z-Wave switches and dimmers. What I would like to know is whether I can use Lutron Homeworks QS Architectural See touch keypads or Palladiom keypads with my Indigo setup.

I apologize for my ignorance about Lutron equipment. I have installed 1 Lutron switch in the past, but I removed it as it did not have a way to set the on brightness from the switch. ( I know that there is another model that does have that capability)

I currently have the Caseta Wireless L-BDG2, but from reading here, I would need the Pro version, I think.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am building a new home and don't know the best way to control lights, dimmers, locks and whatever. I believe the Homework system would do that for me at a price but I wonder how much control I would be giving up.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Lutron keypads

You can use any of the Lutron product lines, with the appropriate bridge device, and use the Lutron keypads to control anything with Indigo.

You do need the Pro bridge for Caseta, as the non-Pro version does not implement the automation protocol that Indigo uses.

Depending on the size of the home (how many device you want to use), Caseta or RadioRa2 are the most common choices. I have an RRA2 system in my house with about 100 devices defined (keypads, dimmers, shades, etc).

Re: Lutron keypads

Thanks for your reply.

I am confused as to the difference between Caseta and RadioRa2. Why would you choose one over the other? And Homeworks is different from both?
Thanks

They're three different product lines from the same company. See https://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumen ... arison.pdf

You would pick between Caseta and RRa2 depending on the type and number of devices you're planning on installing. Caseta is more limited in both available devices and the number the Smart Bridge can control. RRa2 is more capable. Homeworks is their top of the line and is intended for very large or complex buildings.

Re: Lutron keypads

Are they interchangeable or do some require professional installation?
Thanks

The lines are not interchangeable. Except maybe between RRa2 and RRa2 Select. Caseta is designed for DIY. Homeworks is pro install only. RRa2 can be DIY, but you need to do their on-line training (about 4 hours) to get access to the programming software, which is Windows only.

Re: Lutron keypads

Thanks. That make sense.

What benefits would going the Homeworks route do for me? I assume I would give up all control in doing so. And any changes as to how things work would require a tech to perform?

Unless you're building a very large and complex home and want to use panelized lighting controls, Homeworks is probably not for you. It also has automation capability, but you can do that with Indigo.

Re: Lutron keypads

The house will be 4 stories on a hill and fairly large. But I do enjoy fiddling with Indigo. (I don't know if anyone else could ever figure out how to handle Indigo if I am not around, ie. my wife)

I was curious as to whether I could use some of the cool looking (and crazy expensive) Homeworks QS switches.

Thanks

Not without the expensive Homeworks processor. But if you're willing to go the professional installer route to use Homeworks, then you should be able to use Indigo to communicate with it. I've never done it myself, but I think we have a couple users doing so.

Re: Lutron keypads

I see.

If I only want to see and control Lutron devices now from Indigo, what do I need? Do I need a repeater to use your plugin? When I attempt to install a Lutron dimmer into Indigo, it asks for a Gateway and INTEGRATION ID.
Thanks

You need a bridge, repeater, or processor, depends on which Lutron product line you're using.

What hardware do you have now?

Re: Lutron keypads

Just a bunch of Insteon switches, dimmers, Z Wave switches and dimmers, and assorted other similar devices, including Hue motion sensors.

For the home I am building, I really don't know which way to go.

Re: Lutron keypads

I'm sorry to be a pest, but I'm trying to wrap my head around using Lutron devices.

If all I want to do is to control Lutron dimmers from Indigo, besides using your plugin, what else do I need?
Thanks
