How do I trigger on MyQ garage door open/close?

Things are coming along in the new place. I have two out of three LiftMaster garage doors installed and they have MyQ.

I'm skeptical about using this cloud-based solution, but figured I would try it before going off and rolling my own garage door controller just to see how it fares.

I have the MyQ Indigo plug-in and I can click the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the device control panel to open and close. I also have a trigger that sends me a push notification when the garage door opens/closes. That works fine as long as I use the aforementioned buttons.

But if I walk up to the wall control and hit the button to close or open the garage door, I do not get a push notification. Here's an example when closing:

Is this the right way to setup the trigger?

For any changes not initiated by the plugin, you’re relying on polling the cloud server. Check the plugin prefs for the interval.

I would recommend a zwave tilt sensor on the door.

Thanks Joe. That makes sense.

I'm looking at using this solution along with a magnetic sensor and an ESP32 to roll my own garage door status/control. That will likely come later.
