Logitech closing their API

With the new firmware update, API access goes away.

What alternatives will you consider for replacing your Harmony?

SmartThings refugee, so happy to be on Indigo. Monterey on a base M1 Mini w/Harmony Hub, Hue, DomoPad, Dynamic URL, Device Extensions, HomeKitLink, Grafana, Plex, uniFAP, Fantastic Weather, Nanoleaf, LED Simple Effects, Bond Home, Camect.

Re: Logitech closing their API

As far as I know, the only other high quality remotes (RTI and URC) are dealer-only, with no easy path for DIY (like Lutron does with RadioRa2 lighting control)... so not a lot of options right now...

I have a Caavo (waiting for them to publish a firmware update that fixes an incompatibility with my comcast box) that can maybe provide some of the functionality, but I don't think it is as robust/customizable as harmony...

Logitech closing their API

For those of us not upgraded yet, could we block the hub from accessing the internet so can't get upgraded? Would that though prevent any changes to the current setup?

What are the alternatives? Itach which is really expensive, or broadlink?

Although thinking about it, these aren't alternatives unless we replace the remote. My wife and guests just about cope with the harmony remote. They will not be interested in a tablet remote using control pages to control these.

If I keep using the harmony remote, indigo won't know what state devices are in to then control. Or if I turn on scene with harmony, then automate turning devices off with broadlink when bedtime alarm set, ie if we left TV on, then the harmony scene will remain on leading to problems the next day.

I'm using it less and less thanks to Panasonic plugin and the harmony skill on Alexa but still have critical functionality that needs this.

Re: Logitech closing their API

Incredibly frustrating to have this functionality disappear. I used Harmony remotes for years, and a hard-button remote is hard to beat.

That said, I have been using Simple Control (https://www.simplecontrol.com) exclusively since iRule was acquired. Incredible feature set, polished app for iOS and tvOS (hub app for macOS), responsive support, and some level of integration possible today with their local HTTP API (https://www.simplecontrol.com/wp-conten ... erface.pdf). The convenience of using any/the closest of your iOS devices (iPads, iPhones, Apple Watches, Apple TVs) is hard to beat. Also: built-in support for control of Indigo and HomeKit devices.

Usual disclaimer: not affiliated — just a happy customer. More than willing to answer any questions if you have them!

Re: Logitech closing their API

There's NEEO. I don't know much about it, but it's pretty (although I'd like more hard buttons):

https://neeo.com

They also see to have local access to the "brain" (hub):

Anyone here tried one?

Re: Logitech closing their API

That's looks pretty sweet. Doesn't show how it's used for transport controls (massively critical feature here). I presume it's with the wheel, but if it's with the screen--it's a non-starter for us. There is a fair number of 1 star reviews, but I'd chalk some of those up to people that want it to be like installing Angry Birds or something.

I came here to drink milk and kick ass....and I've just finished my milk.

Logitech closing their API

Who's up for a challenge. Obviously not me as I can't manage a 5 line python script but the guys at Hasio have worked out how to still do local control with web sockets that the iOS app uses for local control.
Happy to help with any testing.

Good news that for now, there is a solution, which I guess Logitech can't close without reworking their iOS app?

Re: Logitech closing their API

Was able to downgrade mine with the instructions here:
https://community.logitech.com/s/questi ... ny-firmare

And then added these to my DNS block list on pi-hole:
https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/ ... s/eby89t8/
Code: Select all
svcs.myharmony.com
pubsub.pubnub.com
content.dhg.myharmony.com
logging.dhg.myharmony.com
myharmony.com
sus.dhg.myharmony.com

And to be double safe, blocked my Harmony Hub from internet communication on my Unifi USG router.
Settings/Routing & Firewall/FirewallTab/Wan Out/
Blocking the mac of my Harmony Hub to an address group of 0.0.0.0/1. (tried /0 but that wasn't accepted on the USG).

Seems to be working fine after several hours.

Logitech closing their API

There’s new version of the pyharmony library pending that has support for the websocket comm method. I should have a test version of the plugin available by next weekend. Can’t do it any sooner as I don’t get home until late on Christmas.
