Not working without Internet connection?

Hi,

due to recent events I wanted to block my Harmony hubs from the Internet (via blocklist in my router).
Unfortunately this seems to stop all communication to Indigo.
So my question is:
Does the API you are using with the harmy hub rely on an active Internet connection or is this just another bug Harmony indroduced in their recent firmware updates?
Any hint or insight is highly apreciated.
TIA
Wilhelm

Re: Not working without Internet connection?

I'm pretty sure on one of those regular internet outages I experience out here, my Hub keeps working with Indigo.

SmartThings refugee, so happy to be on Indigo. Monterey on a base M1 Mini w/Harmony Hub, Hue, DomoPad, Dynamic URL, Device Extensions, HomeKitLink, Grafana, Plex, uniFAP, Fantastic Weather, Nanoleaf, LED Simple Effects, Bond Home, Camect.

Re: Not working without Internet connection?

Thanks, I'm sure now, the Harmonyhub altogether is not working any more without being online.
You may test yourself. Once the iOS app is connected to the hub it just takes a while until it stops working.
Sometimes it takes a few hours.

It seems Indigo Harmony plugin just react faster to an internet outage. It's a pain since there is no real alternative to Harmony.
Cheers

Re: Not working without Internet connection?

The plugin uses the pyharmony library (https://pypi.python.org/pypi/pyharmony). The library needs to communicate with Logitech's servers to get an authentication token needed to talk to the Hub. If you block the Hub from the internet then I think that authentication process will eventually fail when Logitech's servers decide the hub isn't active anymore.

I'd be very surprised if the Hub continued to work, even with a Logitech remote, after you block it.

I think it'll work until the authentication token expires.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but if this is happening with your Harmony, update to a newer version. Harmony fixed this issue about a year ago.

Re: Not working without Internet connection?

Thanks for sharing. I will try to isolate the hubs from the Internet right away.
If that is true, I would be very happy.

Re: Not working without Internet connection?

Ok, I have used the hubs for 3 days now without internet connection.
Works ok, now.
Thanks again for the tip.
