Re: Schlage BE469 Issues

I knew this was going to be a challenge!

Unfortunately, I have installed the lock on my front door and the mac is about 40-50 ft away, so taking the lock apart to get it closer to the mac seems out of the question. I took my z-wave stick over to the door lock and it seemed to recognize and accept the lock in the z-wave network. Then, I plugged the stick into the mac and added the lock (with encryption) in Indigo, which seems to act that it is opening and closing the lock properly, but nothing is happening at the lock. Indigo does indicate that the lock does not have encryption enabled. I don't see any program function in the lock to turn on/off encryption, so I'm not sure why Indigo indicates encryption is not enabled when I selected to add the device with encryption. Also, the lock always gives me the red "X" after I enter in the program code + 0. So, it seems like the lock is not in communication with my z-wave network and Indigo at all, even though Indigo seems to think so. The lock manager plugin is totally not working properly at this point. How can I get the lock manager plugin to recognize the lock w/o having to take apart the lock and move it closer to the mac? I can send log data!

Thanks!

Peter

Re: Schlage BE469 Issues

You've got to put the Z-Wave stick in include mode with encryption prior to adding the lock. If you're using the Z-Stick, AFAIK pressing the button on it and taking it to the lock does not enable encryption.

You'll need to take your mac to the lock, or do what I did. I put a plug-in lamp module half-way between my Mac and the lock, added the lamp module, and then added the lock (with the Z-Stick still plugged into the Mac). The lamp module must be capable of forwarding encrypted data. Worked flawlessly.

Re: Schlage BE469 Issues

Note also you have to exclude it first, then re-include it (using Indigo's encryption inclusion option in the device dialog). The encryption handshake / key exchange is complex, and is not something the Z-Stick can do by itself.

Any ideas on how to put the Z-wave stick (Gen 5) in include mode with encryption? I read the manual and there is no description of enabling encryption. What does AFAIK mean? Thanks!

Re: Schlage BE469 Issues

Thanks for the updated version and sorry for the delay getting back to you.

I am no longer seeing any errors from ZWave Lock Manager, but I am still experiencing some inconsistent behavior:

* Enable/disable auto re-lock sends z-wave commands, but has no effect on the lock.

* Set operating mode sends z-wave commands, but has no effect on the lock.

* Un/Locked by Indigo trigger still doesn't work, but neither does the builtin "Z-Wave Command Received" -> "Un/Locked by Controller" trigger.

In general, this makes me wonder if either this lock does not support these features via zwave, or if I failed to sync it fully (like everyone, it took me several tries to sync without errors). Does anyone know if either of these are the case?

Thanks again.

Copy/paste the Event Log results of all the syncs into a reply so we can see exactly how well it sync'd.

Re: Schlage BE469 Issues

OK. With a lot of trial and error on the correct procedure to include the Schlage lock with encryption, I finally got it to work! I didn't realize you had to select the option in Indigo to include the new device with encryption. Because the z-wave stick had to be within 10 ft of the door lock, I installed Indigo on my laptop and moved it over to the door during the inclusion of the door lock. It's really not as complicated as it should be. The procedure needs to be performed in exactly the right order, and I have already kinda forgot because I tried all different combinations to get this thing to work! A more clear exact procedure would remove a lot of trial and error. The first step is to make sure the door lock is close to the z-wave stick during the inclusion with encryption. Otherwise, you are screwed. Here is my log when installation was successful:
Z-Wave started controller inclusion mode with encryption
Z-Wave stopping controller inclusion mode
Z-Wave stopped controller inclusion mode

Z-Wave received "010 - Door Lock (BE369/468/469)" status update battery level 100%

Don't know about the z-wave lock manager plugin, so I guess I will play around with that now!

Thanks everyone for your help!

Re: Schlage BE469 Issues

Also, re Lock Manager, because the plugin doesn't see when the lock is changed by indigo, the plugin device gets out of sync with the z-wave device and has a display state of Open instead of Locked or Unlocked. Manually toggling the deadbolt seems to get it back in sync.

The lock should be reporting "changed by Zwave Controller" whenever it is changed by Indigo, which would therefore update the lock managers status. Does your lock not report this?

No, it does not. I can lock and unlock the device via z-wave controller, but it displays "Changed Via unknown" when I do. Also, as stated above, related triggers do not fire.

Manual and Keypad changes are displayed correctly and related triggers do fire.

Re: Schlage BE469 Issues

Can you put Lock Manager in debug mode (but not ZWave itself - too much traffic filling the logs) and show me some logs and screenshots of what's happening when you lock/unlock via Indigo and where you're seeing the "Changed Via unknown"?

I see "Changed Via unknown" in Indigo client UI for the actual z-wave lock. See attachment.

It looks to me like the Schlage lock just doesn't send a z-wave message when locked or unlocked via Indigo, which is a shame. It has been working reliably, but I do wish I could a) trigger off of un/lock by indigo events and b) set and clear the auto-relock feature. I realize these simply may not be possible for this unit, but I'd like to be sure before giving up.

Thanks so much.
