Beginners Guide: Sonos One w/Alexa and Alexa Hue-Bridge

Can someone give me step by step instructions as to how to set up the alexa hue bridge and make it work with a Sonos One w/Alexa?
Within the Alexa App I've tried to enable the Phillips Hue Bridge skill. I've created an account and get as far as the app asking me to push the big button on the middle of your bridge. I don't see a button to push and I don't have a hue bridge. I believe the Alexa plug-in is working. The setup in Indigo 7 says the Alexa Hue Bridge is on port 8178, Should I change that to 9100?
Here is some of the log:

Re: Beginners Guide: Sonos One w/Alexa and Alexa Hue-Bridge

I'll try and help. :)

However, I am not sure exactly what you are trying to do. :?

The Alexa-Hue Bridge plugin is used to enable Alexa to control Indigo devices or invoke Indigo actions Essentially Alexa will only respond to the the commands: turn on, turn off or dim. This is because when Alexa is communicating with the Alexa-Hue Bridge plugin, Alexa is fooled into thinking "she" is communicating with a Phillips Hue Lamp.

Have you read through the Alexa-Hue Bridge plugin documentation?

You don't need the skill for this to work. When Alexa asks you to press the button on the Hub, that means you need to have discovery active on an Alexa Hue Bridge device.

So if you are looking to control your Sonos via the Alexa-Hue bridge you will need to have the Sonos plugin installed.

If you are looking to have Alexa directly control the Sonos then you don't need to use the Alexa-Hue Bridge. As I haven't got any Sonos devices,I can't advise you how to do this.

Let me know if the above makes sense to you and please post back with further question if needed. :)

Re: Beginners Guide: Sonos One w/Alexa and Alexa Hue-Bridge

Thanks Jon. I'm trying to logically think this through. In order for this to work do I need to set up a new device in Indigo for each Insteon device as an Emulated Hue Bridge device? See attached photo where I have one device called Alexa-Hue Bridge. In the setup I've listed all the devices I want to control.
Perhaps I'm going about this in the wrong way?
Instead of "Alexa, discover devices" I should say "Alexa, turn on Front Porch"?

Re: Beginners Guide: Sonos One w/Alexa and Alexa Hue-Bridge

Hi Pedro,
You appear to have setup your Alexa devices OK (using the Edit Device Settings for the 'Sonos One Living Room' Alexa-Hue Bridge device). You need to say "Alexa discover devices". It should report back "n devices discovered" (where n is the number of devices defined) or "no new devices discovered" if you have done this a number of times.

Has this step worked OK for you i.e. has Alexa told you that she has discovered devices?

Assuming she has, you should now be able to control your devices by saying e.g. "Alexa turn on back porch".

You can check in the iOS Alexa App to see what devices have been discovered by clicking on 'Smart Home' in the App menu - it should list the devices discovered. :)

Re: Beginners Guide: Sonos One w/Alexa and Alexa Hue-Bridge

Update: Alexa says can't find devices for your Smarthome. If you haven't already please enable the smart home skill for your device from the Alexa app. Which brings us back to the original post about enabling SmartHome skills. The Sonos skill is enabled and Alexa responds to requests for using Sonos such as playing music on Sonos Living Room and other Sonos devices.

Have you put your bridge into discover mode (shows as On in Indigo) and then said Alexa discover devices?

Re: Beginners Guide: Sonos One w/Alexa and Alexa Hue-Bridge

What type of Echos are you using? The latest Echo (Gen 2) can't discover devices.

The plugin will create entries in the Indigo Event Log when you run a discovery telling what devices it is publishing to Alexa.

Re: Beginners Guide: Sonos One w/Alexa and Alexa Hue-Bridge

I must be missing a step or two.
I am using a new Sonos One w/Alexa. Alexa tells me she's found no devices; please enable the smart home skill. I don't know what smart home skill to enable as there are many. I tried enabling the Phillips Hue Bridge but that requires a piece of hardware called Phillips Hue Bridge..
I just restarted the Indigo server and everything regarding Alexa-Hue Bridge looks fine. 'Sonos One Living Room' has 11 Alexa Devices published.
The log is below. Could 'Started interface "Virtual Devices 2.0..4" be causing a conflict?
Within the Indigo devices list a green dot and Discovery: On appears next to the Sonos One Living Room device.

I think that is the issue. The plugin is known to be able to discover with the Amazon Echo (Gen 1) and the Amazon Echo Dot (Gen 1 & Gen 2). Other Amazon Echos such as Echo Show and Echo (Gen 2) don't appear to be able to discover via the plugin.

I suspect your simplest solution will be to purchase an Echo Dot to do the discovery and then your Sonos One w/Alexa will hopefully be able to control your devices via the plugin.

I don't know if anyone else has got a Sonos One w/Alexa to work with the plugin?
You might be a trail blazer with this device. :)

Re: Beginners Guide: Sonos One w/Alexa and Alexa Hue-Bridge

I got a message from the folks at Sonos saying that indeed I would need a Phillips Hue Bridge for this to function properly.
I'm wondering: wouldn't the Insteon Hub do the same thing and talk directly to the Sonos/w Alexa? It would seem to me that Insteon Devices>Insteon Hub>Alexa would be a direct link. I'm going to search for the Insteon Hub topic.
Thanks!

Re: Beginners Guide: Sonos One w/Alexa and Alexa Hue-Bridge

Got the Phillips Hue Bridge Hub, still Nada! This is kind of frustrating not being able to find answers to this problem. My next step is to purchase the Insteon Hub that claims to work with Alexa. That would mean running the Indigo system and the Insteon hub system concurrently so that I can have Alexa working. Wish someone could give me a step by step procedure to get this to work with Indigo alone. :(

Hi peteajr,
I don't know the cost of the Insteon Hub but I'm guessing the Echo Dot is cheaper and will most likely solve your problem as Autolog points out.

Once the Dot discovers your devices then the Sonos One should work fine, it will also come in handy to use in another part of your house :) .
PS. I don't think you needed to buy the Philips Hue Bridge as it's not required for the plugin to work..

Re: Beginners Guide: Sonos One w/Alexa and Alexa Hue-Bridge

As @Colly said, you need to follow my advice and re-read my post as I have already answered your question.

All the Alexa-Hue Bridge plugin needs to discover devices is an Echo (Gen 1) or Echo Dot (Gen 1 or Gen 2) to communicate with. You don't need to install/activate any Skills or use other hardware.

As I said in my previous post, I am not sure whether anyone else has tried a Sonos One w/Alexa and if it works or not. As @Colly said, it probably will, but you need to use an Amazon device (as previously noted) to successfully discover devices.

Hope this helps . :)

OK. Thanks. I'll get an Echo and see what happens.
Thanks all for your patience with me.
