Echo Plus API - Indigo

Given the announcement by Amazon yesterday is there interest in linking in Indigo to the new Echo Plus Smart Home Hub?

Probably too early to tell, but it looks promising and has the potential to be a fully fledged voice interface for all Indigo functions.

Very very interesting.

A few interesting things that are new:

You can now send events to the Alexa Event Gateway
You can query and get status reports on device state
You can also send proactive updates on device status to Alexa
Send asynchronous messages directly from the cloud platform to Alexa
New Discovery of devices with new Capabilities details for each device

Re: Echo Plus API - Indigo

I'm not smart enough to know for sure but it seems like this update would allow a plug-in to send messages to Alexa to be spoken - that is the big, big, big missing capability for me w/ Indigo. Hard wiring speakers is too hard in my house and everything I have tried except Sonos speech (which is too expensive for every room in my house) has reliability issues.

Every night before I go to bed I will get down on my knees a pray for someone to develop a plug in to allow two way voice for Alexa (if I'm right about it being possible now).

The ASK is definitely getting better over time, though the requirement for OAuth is still the issue with an Indigo integration. We're moving closer to being able to do a native skill but we're still not quite there yet.

I don't believe this is possible - I've not seen any way to push speech to an Echo.

It looks like the Echo Plus will auto-install a number of Zigbe devices, might there be a way to spoof one of them?

It seems that it has a Zigbee radio, so it's talking the Zigbee HA protocol API. Spoofing that would be a huge amount of work (probably even harder than writing an Indigo plugin to talk to Zigbee devices) and would require that your Mac have a Zigbee radio of some type (a Zigbee dongle might work, but again it's a huge amount of work).

Sounds easier to try to use Corporate Competition and drop hints that Homebridge-Indigo will be so awesome on the HomePod that the Echo will be left behind
