pibeacon install on fresh Raspbian image

Hi Karl,

Installing pibeacon onto a fresh raspbian image on a rPi 0 w and it appears that it doesnt come with git which I think your installlibs.py script needs?

I have installed manually and rerun and it appears to run ok now.

also I think the command should be

Code: Select all
sudo python pibeacon/installLibs.py

and not the below per the instructions?
Code: Select all
sudo pythoninstallLibs.py
.

Simon.

Re: pibeacon install on fresh Raspbian image

Also, think I have a problem here. I used the initial config option to delete the old pi, and have now created it again, but the Mac address is showing as 00:00:00:00:00:pi:06 rather than the correct one, and when I try to correct it, it tells me it already exists.

Have I messed this up?

Ok, the MAC address is taken now, but I am getting an error on startup, I think when callbeacon.py is run, that says

Code: Select all
rm: cannot remove '/home/pi/pibeacon/pygame.active': No such file or directory

I gace up and tried again with full Raspbian image rather than lite.
Apt-get install Python-bluez seemed to hang when run from the script so I killed it and installed manually then reran the script and all seemed ok.
It’s now working perfectly.

That message is ok. The pgm is trying to remove leftover files from last run. It Does not check if it exists when doing the “rm xxx”

Re: pibeacon install on fresh Raspbian image

Hey Karl,

Are you planning to create a new base image with the latest Raspberry OS lite? I've tried the 2020-02-25-pibeacon-buster.img in both my Raspberry Pi Zero W and my 3B+ and they all kernel panic. Not sure if it's because the firmware on the Pi is newer and created an incompatibility with it or what...

I'm moving my 3D printers' OctoPrint instances from separate Pi units over to Docker containers on a more powerful desktop, so it's freeing the Pi units up to play with again.

Thanks
Ross

Ross I’ve got it working well on 2 Pi zero Ws recently with using the full OS install either the raspberry OS tool and then the manual setup pi beacon setup.
I got the same with the kernel panics.
