Re: Fresh pies every day

No worries, I will try and diagnose myself as I'm still not convinced it's not a problem somewhere perhaps with my rPi since the other two pies work fine

Re: Fresh pies every day

Hi Karl,

No it's still not working on one of my Pies, but I think I know why.

Having rebuilt from a new SSD image and bought an external WiFi adapter after discovering that the internal WiFi on Pi3 is pants and thinking that may be the issue, I am still left with random reboots not happening.

Here's my ~/pibeacon directory:

Code: Select all
pi@BedroomPi:~/pibeacon $ ls -l
total 1584
-rwxrwxrwx 1 pi   pi     2234 Jun  8 02:27 actions.py
-rwxrwxrwx 1 pi   pi    82541 Jun  8 02:27 apds9960.py
-rw-rw-rw- 1 pi   pi        2 Aug 11 10:04 batteryLevelPosition
-rwxrwxrwx 1 pi   pi    41028 Jun  8 02:27 beaconloop.py
-rw-rw-rw- 1 root root    181 Aug  9 16:33 beaconsExistingHistory
-rwxrwxrwx 1 pi   pi    13866 Jun  8 02:27 BLEconnect.py
-rwxrwxrwx 1 pi   pi    36663 Jun  8 02:27 bno055.py
-rwxrwxrwx 1 pi   pi     3307 Jun  8 02:27 callbeacon.py
-rwxrwxrwx 1 pi   pi      907 Jun  8 02:27 checkLogfile.py
-rwxrwxrwx 1 pi   pi     1232 Jun  8 02:27 convert.py
-rwxrwxrwx 1 pi   pi    10965 Jun  8 02:27 displayDistance.py
Notice the date: Jun 8

On my other pies this is Aug 2. From a piBeacon point of view this pi does appear to be working, but why aren't the files updating to the latest piBeacon version installed on the Mac?

I did a send ALL files (...) and REBOOT from the Plugin menu and now the files are updated and the file size of beaconloop.py, for example, matches that on my other pies.

I expect the reboots will probably work as expected now like my other pies, but I think you may have something broken on the automatic version update perhaps as the version from the SSD image never got updated?

Re: Fresh pies every day

The plugin sends the config files every 2 hours but not the py etc programs.
That only happens if the version number for the rpi pgms in the documents/ pibeacon directory is not up to date ( the version number in the plugin.py for the rpi files ) or if you manually push it as you did.
... At least that should happen.

So after manual push it is all in sync? And rebooting?

.. i can only look at the code in 3 weeks.

Re: Fresh pies every day

After manual push all files seem up-to-date and the rPi is working, however I only discovered the issue today so haven't been able to confirm 100% the nightly reboots.

Re: Fresh pies every day

This is now all fixed. I had issues with the wiringPi library which I updated manually from v2.32 to v2.44 as this didn't update with apt-get update / distilled-upgrade. Not sure if that had anything to do with it but my /var/log/messages no longer get spammed. Also my /etc/rc.local file seemed to be corrupted in some way as it didn't launch the callbeacon.py script. I sudo nano'd it and saved it again after adding a space and it appeared to work again.

Anyway, all rPi's have been successfully rebooting now every day so the latest fix you did was successful - thank you!
