XY find it

Has anyone else out there tried the XY FindIt iBeacon?

I purchased 2x to test with my piBeacon setup. At first, they appeared to be working as expected-as soon as one was within range of one of my piBeacon's, they appeared.

However, within about 36h, they no longer appeared. I've replaced the batteries, but still the same problem. They do appear to be having some effect as my piBeacon's change from "expired" to "up" as soon as one of the XY FindIts is within range... However I do not see the XY FindIts as a device.

Any comments/suggestions out there?

Re: XY find it

as I am out of town I can't check that: they might have a battery optimizer enabled. try to switch that off. Karl

Re: XY find it

Received reply back from XY FindIt confirming there is no battery saver mode.

Deleted your plugin (v23) completely (all files) and then reinstalled it. Now I'm seeing the XY FindITs again.

Will monitor and let you know...

Did you remember to rename them?

Re: XY find it

I might have XY vs. XY2

don't know if there is a difference or just the name changed.

No <smack forehead>. It was only today when the devices disappeared again that I understood your comment.

Is there any way to clear the "hidden" list without having to redo the whole plugin?

Re: XY find it

That did the trick... thank you!

Any idea why each XY FindIT is showing as 2 separate iBeacons? Different MACs, same UUID.

Re: XY find it

Uuid can be the same for many devices. How do you know they are the same?

Each new mac creates a new devices.

Or you could have defined them as iPhone uuid to mac device

Re: XY find it

I bought a 3-pack of the XY2 devices and each one created 2 devices with different MAC and UUID. Each one was different by 3 digits
Code: Select all
Beacon 1 - D4 +3 to D7 and 2516 +3 to 2519
00:EA:23:32:09:D4 and 07775dd0111b11e491910800200c9a66-9010-2516
00:EA:23:32:09:D7 and 07775dd0111b11e491910800200c9a66-9010-2519

Beacon 2 - C4 +3 to C7 and 37060 +3 to 37063
00:EA:23:3E:90:C4 and 07775dd0111b11e491910800200c9a66-9022-37060
00:EA:23:3E:90:C7 and 07775dd0111b11e491910800200c9a66-9022-37063

Beacon 3 - A4 +3 to A7 and 32932 +3 to 32935
00:EA:23:33:80:A4 and 07775dd0111b11e491910800200c9a66-9011-32932
00:EA:23:33:80:A7 and 07775dd0111b11e491910800200c9a66-9011-32935

Should I delete/ignore one of each of them?

Distance is set to Feet
Code: Select all
distance Units               0.348; 1=m, 0.3=f, 0.9=y

When the beacon is sitting 3 inches away from the rPi unit I get this reading: Pi_1_Distance = 10.2 (distance is 499.4 from Pi_0 which is in the front room of the house.)

XY find it

To fix the distance: edit device set TX power to the value received at 1 m distance = signal in states listing ( if I recall correctly it is -59 )

Some beacons do not transmit the TX value.

The new xy-3 create multiple beacons = they transmit using 2 or more mac numbers They are using this may be to send different info to the app. Pibeacon only looks at the mac number uuid and the byte after uuid ignores the rest.

You can simply delete it one. It will then be ignored on the rpi. To re-enable go to menu / disable/ enable beacons.

Re: XY find it

got a replacement (*) for the xy-3 and that one works.
Also for this one it creates 3 devices (3 MAC numbers from one iBeacon). 2 stay up, one goes down after ~ 2+ minutes.

Karl

(*) they send a replacement after I complained, no questions asked. was good service

Re: XY find it

I picked up a set of these to use instead of the iPhones. They actually work quite well. I had to use the app to "activate" them it seems, but they get fairly good distance.

Now, to set up more Pis to cover each area of the house...
