Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

let's try this again:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6pratynrgxfpmi0/piBeacon-v-1-1-4-4.zip?dl=1

also could you check the device listing in the piBeacon folder if there is anything wrong?

thx

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

Karl,

No change other than the line number the errors are happening on:
Code: Select all
piBeacon Error                  Error in plugin execution runConcurrentThread:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "plugin.py", line 984, in runConcurrentThread
File "plugin.py", line 969, in initCuncurrentThread
<type 'exceptions.TypeError'>: coercing to Unicode: need string or buffer, int found

piBeacon Error                  plugin runConcurrentThread function returned or failed (will attempt again in 10 seconds)

I don't have a piBeacon folder. It has never created one, nor any devices.

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

I guess we have to wait until I am back home. It is difficult to do it remotely.

No worries, Karl. I may try poking around the configuration to see if I can kick it into action but just let me know when you want me to try anything.

Linda
There must be a pibeacon device
Sort the device list with model or type. You should have at least one device

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

I have the rPi device I created manually, but other than that I don't have any piBeacon devices.

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

I think I must be misinterpreting the instructions. I'm closer but not quite there.

I wiped the config and started over. I'm not getting the periodic error every 10 seconds. I redid the plugin configuration and then went through the setup pi servers step (configured slot 0 for my lone pi).

I didn't create any manual devices this time.

I'm seeing the periodic message:
Code: Select all
WebServer                       request to set variable "pi_IN_0" value to "{"pi_IN_":"0","mac":"5C:F3:70:6D:E4:C5","msgs":[["42:A6:77:F2:1B:78",1,"0-0-0",-66.5,-46.0,166],["7F:8B:FE:F0:AC:1E",2,"1a13ff4c000c0e00412ccaf496f38ec9-13744-7510",-68.0,-46.0,1],["70:73:CB:D9:38:AE",1,"0-0-0",-78.0,15.0,114],["C8:69:CD:4E:B1:27",1,"0-0-0",-65.5,33.0,169],["6B:0B:78:53:AF:19",1,"0-0-0",-65.7,55.5,357]],"secsCol":"38"}" from 192.168.1.112
so the plugin is listening to the pi. However, I don't get a folder with bean devices being created although when I got into "ignore beacons" the list shows 4 beacons and on pi.

I feel like I must be missing a step somewhere along the way but that it is fairly close.

---------- follow up ----------------------
Ok, I thought the devices would get created in a folder called 'piBeacons' but they are being created in the root. So it actually looks like I'm somewhat operational now.

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

Ok now I understand you created a device manually. Don't donthat the plugin does everything. The logfile shows that the pi is working.

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

One last question for the evening, I hope.

Is the plugin supposed to be creating the devices in it's own 'piBeacons' folder? That's what I thought I should be seeing from reading the instructions. But, the devices were created without a folder . How should it be behaving?

------- follow up ------------

And, to answer my own question. It is creating devices in piBeacons....once I wiped everything again (including the folder I had originally created manually) and started from scratch. I should probably stop while I'm ahead now. :)

Karl, thanks for your help and patience. I should have a radius button arriving in a couple of days so I'm looking forward to seeing how it behaves.

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

It checks if there are already beacons. it will use that folder for all other new beacons even if it is the root.

Now if you erase everything it will do it right.

Then if it finds a new beacon it will create a corresponding device( if not in the reject list or family)
Then after an hour if there is no messages from the beacon and it is still the same name it will delete that device.
This is done to automatically delete junk: Many beacons walk or drive by and send a beacon message once or for a short time period.

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

Karl,

My first beacon showed up today and I was able to see it come and go without any problem. I probably need to move the pi to the front of the house so it has a chance of hearing beacons in the garage, but so far it looks very promising!

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

I would add 1-X more pi's to cover the house. And set the xyz coordinates of the pi's

Estimote from Estimote

I tried estimate to use the iPhone as an iBeacon with estimote (virtual iBeacon). It seems to work, but every time you restart BLE it generates a new MAC number. The UUID-Major-Minor stays the same(*)

prove of concept that iPhone can be used as an iBeacon.
