New Plugin: WUnderstation

v0.1.0 of the WUnderstation Plugin is now available.

The WUnderstation plugin is used to upload data to Weather Underground in order to populate a Personal Weather Station (PWS). There are some important points to consider when using this plugin:

You are the owner of the data and you are responsible for what you upload with it.

The plugin uploads data from Indigo Variables and you are responsible for getting the data into the proper format and into the variables themselves (more on that below.)

There is some rudimentary data checking built into the plugin, but it does very little beyond that. For example, it will check to ensure that a percentage value is between 0-100.

You must have a PWS account configured with Weather Underground in order to use the plugin.

Weather Underground only accepts data in standard format (°F, inches, MPH, etc.)

How it works:
After installing and enabling the plugin, select "Configure..." from the Indigo plugins menu. You will see the following dialog (the configuration dialog relies on some background tasks to complete and will take a few seconds to load--you may briefly see a Beach Ball--this is normal):

The settings are:
- Username and Password: these are associated with your PWS account on Weather Underground.
- Upload Frequency: how often you would like the plugin to talk to Weather Underground.
- Plugin update notifications: if you would like to be notified of future updates via email.
- Weather and Air Quality Data: In total, there are 53 data elements that you can upload. (The image below shows an example of some air quality data elements.)

Each data element is a separate value and must be set independently. The drop-down menu will present a list of all Indigo Variables and you must select the variable appropriate for that data element. Leave elements set to None if you do not want to include them. If possible, try to name your variables in a way that consolidates them in the menu and are easy to identify (see the image above as an example.) Each variable should only contain a VALUE and not any extra information (i.e, 72.3 and not 72.3°F). If there is more than one data element for a given item (i.e., Outdoor temperature 1, Outdoor temperature 2, ...) you should always use number 1 first. All settings are available via the Plugin Configuration menu; there are no individual WUnderstation devices.

Enjoy, and please post any questions or comments to this thread.

Cheers,
Dave

Re: New Plugin: WUnderstation

I should add that there are no WUnderstation devices.

If you want to check the status of your PWS, use the WUnderground plugin and link it to your PWS.

Re: New Plugin: WUnderstation

Great plugin. I now can use my oregon scientific sensors (connect to indigo via rfxcom) to broadcast weather and rain at my house. I'm using the THC138 temp sensor, PCR800 rain guage, and I *had* an old BTHR968 wireless barometer. However the barometer has recently failed and I dont have a lead on a new barometer (OS wireless barometers not being made anymore I think). I used some variables and scripting to track "hourly rainfall" as weather underground wants. Anyway good work! ar kgaatlan194

New Plugin: WUnderstation

Thanks for the compliments. I wrote it in a bubble (I don't have a PWS account), so please let me know if you come across anything hinky.

WUnderground Error popping up throughout error logs

I've installed the plugin and can successfully pull back the current temps.

However, I'm picking up a consistent error in my logs basically every 5 minutes.

"A WUnderground device has been created, but is not fully configured. Sleeping for a minute while you finish."

The PlugIn has a valid API and the API appears set up on the Underground side. I've even re-generated a new API key and still get the same error.

Not sure what to do next.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Rob

Re: New Plugin: WUnderstation

Hi Rob - I want to make sure that we're comparing apples and apples.

The WUnderstation plugin doesn't use the WUnderground API and doesn't require an API key. The WUnderstation plugin requires a Personal Weather Station (PWS) account be established and then the username and password are entered into the plugin configuration dialog. You might want the WUnderground plugin which is what reads PWS data from others and requires an API key.

The WUnderstation plugin is for creating your own PWS on Weather Underground.

The WUnderground plugin is for reading PWS data from Weather Underground and creating weather devices in Indigo.
