new FINGSCAN user question: control page status, images

is there an easy way to use the a device's state for a control page? for starters, i'm looking for some piece of state i can render on a control page as Red/Green dot or some other intuitive icon.

i'm guessing there must be an easy way to do this. looks like the the device "status" property switches form "up" to "down" or sometimes other values like "expired".

should i just bite the bullet and create some icons (or add links to some existing ones with names to match the states)? or are there other clever ways of accomplishing this?

thanks.

I’m thinking about the best way to show where particular devices are, Since some devices, like phones, go to sleep and would show as expired, if they haven’t left the house it seems to me that device is most likely to be where it was last seen.

The suggested control page showing up or down for each device in each room is a little cumbersome and not useful for sleeping devices. Wouldn’t a good way to do this be creating variables for each device and setting the room name and last time it was detected? That way a control page could just simply display each device and the room and time it was last seen or left the house.

This would be very helpful for people like my wife who cannot find her phone at least 3 times a day. Also couldn’t a certain number of generic variables be created for newly detected devices which would be populated when they are up and blanked out when they expire. That way the control page could dynamically show current activity. If that were a car, for example, by correlating that info with the arrival of a friend or workman, they could be added as known devices.

Does this make any sense?

Does that make sense?

Fingscan does not know room or location only on or off. Don’t know how that can be used to locate it besides inside house and gone.

You should try pibeacon ble connect
With the iOS my iPhone has been 100% accurate over the last week. (*)

Pibeacon has closest rpi it connected to as device name. I have 10rpi. With that I know +-5 m where the iPhone is. But that sometimes does not help when it’s dark.

I guess I was combining the two in my mind. So Fingscan can tell me whether the device is in the house, and Pibeacon can tell me what room it's in as long as it's awake. Yes?

So is my assumption correct that when a device is asleep Fingscan doesn't know if it's in the house and Pibeacon can't determine where it is? If that is right, does my idea of setting variables for those devices I know I want to track, equal to its last known location--the most recent room reported by Pibeacon or its home or away state reported by Fingscanthe --make sense to you?

Pibeacon does everything.

A) with ibeacons
B) with ble Signal from iPhone

But I thought it only reported up or down. If the device fell asleep how do you know where it is?

1. Ibeacons do not fall asleep
2. Ble-connect seems to work flawlessly now. iPhones answer fine.

Pibeacon remembers last closest rpi

So if you leave it goes down and remembers last rpi.

Otherwise it shows where the device is closest to.
