I guess that's the problem.

Which os are your using?

Fingscan wants to jnstall in /usr/bin.

If that does not work ... it will fail

Using macOS Sierra, 10.12.3. There is a directory, "fing" under the "Documents" directory and there are three files, fing.data, fing.log, fingerror.log. I assume those are created when fing is run for the first time. Not a linux guy. Is fing some kind of daemon process? Can I just move some files to the correct directory or is there something else I can do to make this work? Thanks.

Edit: Just looked and found that fing appears to get installed at /usr/local/bin. It also creates a fing directory under /usr/local/lib if that helps you figure out what is going on.

Re: FINGSCAN - discussion

it tries to move

/Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 7/Plugins/fingscan.indigoPlugin/Contents/Server Plugin/ls /usr/local/share/fing/bin/*
to
/usr/local/bin

and
/Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 7/Plugins/fingscan.indigoPlugin/Contents/Server Plugin/fingEXE/lib/*
to
/usr/local/lib

and some more. This was implemented when Sierra started blocking the /usr/bin directories for sudo users. ( one higher than regular users) only SU user can do that now.
So we moved the fing exec modules to /usr/LOCAL/bin etc where regular users still have access.

it seems that that does not work on your MAC

are you sure that your password is correct?

could you check if the directories
/usr/local/bin/
/usr/local/share/fing/
/etc/fing/
/usr/local/lib/
/usr/local/lib/fing/
/var/data/fing/
exists?

type
ls /usr/local/share/fing
to check if that directory exists

the fastest way to diagnose this would be an online scion with teamviewer. It would take me 10 minutes to find out why it does not copy the files.

Are there instructions showing how to use this plugin somewhere?

Re: FINGSCAN - discussion

Just trying to re-install this on a new machine - I can't actually find the Fingscan install anywhere. The download just contains the Indigo plugin?

FINGSCAN - discussion

You only need the plugin.
Double click on the plugin
Go into config
Set userid password ...
And then it should start creating devices for each ip device on your network.
You then can fine tune: loop time, if you want to use ping to confirm up.... but not needed to get startet.

Re: FINGSCAN - discussion

Sorry changed that some time ago. Now fing exe is included in the plugin and it will install it too.

Re: FINGSCAN - discussion

Hi Karl,
I can't seem to get the long IP list in event configuration to save anything outside of the original 5 places. If I add more they seem to get truncated. Is there a trick to it that I'm missing?
Best,
Rocco

Re: FINGSCAN - discussion

Hi Karl,

I think I've determined that FINGSCAN will not work with the new Airport Extreme ac routers because they don't support SNMP. Is this correct? If so is there a work-around short of replacing the router?

Thanks in advance for your insights about this.

Mike

Re: FINGSCAN - discussion

Fingscan does not use snmp
Is this the Probleme where the router constantly changes ip and mac?

Re: FINGSCAN - discussion

karl,

The latest version solved the down - expired issue. However, Events are not triggered now. With debug on, the log shows:

EVENT triggerEvent: EVENT-3-allHome

But this doesn't translate to the Indigo Triggers working. It was before. Tried many times by manually triggering the event from the plugin menu and had the same behavior. Same for all events.

Suggestions?

JP

Re: FINGSCAN - discussion

I just tried it .. and mine fires..

make sure everything is enabled.. (jn fingscan menu events, in trigger ) add a print text to log file to test ..

attached a version with a little more debugging in that section.
you should see: >>firing trigger id : # << just before the indigo trigger routine is called "indigo.trigger.execute(trigger)"

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jedqmkjyzr2oiw9/fingscan-v-7-22-7.zip?dl=1

also added: test fire events now 1...12 (up from 1...5)
and fixed a bug I came across adding code in the last version

I will be out tomorrow noon for 3+ weeks with little access to indigo (son's wedding in Hungary = no indigo allowed .. )
if I get anything back before, I can try fixing..

Karl

log file output should look like:
Code: Select all
21:28:41 EVENT       -triggerEvent: EVENT-12-allHome
21:28:41 EVENT       -testing trigger id : 1423847604  EVENT-1-allAway
21:28:41 EVENT       -testing trigger id : 138456350  badWiFi
21:28:41 EVENT       -testing trigger id : 1174867687  EVENT-1-oneHome
21:28:41 EVENT       -testing trigger id : 395786349  IPNumberChanged
21:28:41 EVENT       -testing trigger id : 1247784583  NewDeviceOnNetwork
21:28:41 EVENT       -testing trigger id : 1461827517  EVENT-2-allAway
21:28:41 EVENT       -testing trigger id : 835070741  EVENT-2-allHome
21:28:41 EVENT       -testing trigger id : 1652526187  EVENT-12-allHome
21:28:41 EVENT       -firing trigger id : 1652526187

and the action shows:
  Trigger                         test fingscan
   fing                            home

Re: FINGSCAN - discussion

As soon as I loaded your test version, triggers started working again....just loaded it with no other change.

Maybe that bug you fixed took care of the issue?
